After advice on upgrading the crankset on this vitus:
https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/vitus-nucleus-27-vrs-bike-deore-1x10-2020/rp-prod181450
Its got boost forks and supposedly boost suntour cranks but standard rear spacing.
Should I go for slx m7000 boost or standard chainset?
I've tried measuring the chain line there at the moment but couldn't tell a difference between 49 & 53mm with the tape measure!
Bit odd eh?
Depending upon chainset(sorry,I don't know about shim chain sets, a Google will tell you though) it's the ring that's boost or not, not the actual cranks.
That can be handy as trying a non boost ring (if it clears the frame ok) can give you a better chain line much of the time.
Edit: Being nosey, why did you want to upgrade the chain set mate? I know it's square taper but that's most definitely not a bad thing in many ways.
If the BB is shot, then that's the time to upgrade perhaps?
That said,I swap out perfectly good bits "just cos" all the time.lol😆
If you go for a Sram direct mount chainset and you find the boost / non-boost option is the wrong one it’s just the chainring that needs to be changed, not the whole crank.
Sram steel direct mount chainrings are less than £20 each.
I’d go dub on the Sram crank standard over gxp though. That said I’ve got gxp on one bike and sub on the other and neither go through bb’s very quickly.
Truvativ Descesdant 6000k / 7000k are broadly the same as Sram NX / GX I think. Truvativ Stylo are cheaper options again usually and quite similar.
I’ve currently got a dub NX and gxp Stylo. They both seem ok although I’d like to upgrade the NX to something slightly higher just because I’m a tart more than anything else. Would like some carbon X01 cranks but they’re too expensive to justify.
I want change the whole chainset because the chain has been randomly dropping even when pootling along. I read a review that said this could be due to the design of the chainring and because the direct mount interface on Suntour is specific so no aftermarket rings available, unless someone knows different?

Just looking at M8000 cranks only on CRC and they have a non-boost and boost version though so maybe not for shimano but is the case for others?
I put an xt non-boost chainset on my hardtail which has a boost backend. Mainly because I didn't know boost cranks were a thing 😆
Works fine.
+1 just go XT/SLX non-boost (and a Works Comp. oval ring)
Looks like the ring is already a bit close to the chainstay though. Maybe 5mm
I've ordered a non boost m7000 slx cranks and a Blackspire nw 32 tooth so fingers crossed.
