Looking at getting a pair of the mallet E's as I'm looking for more support and mud shedding over my shimano xt trails. Are the longevity issues of crank brothers of old gone?

I'm also a bit concerned about heel rub as I tend to ride with my heels in and the slightly narrower q-factor over shimano pedals means there wouldn't be much clearance? Not too keen on the long spindle version either as I know my knee's don't agree with them from riding mallet dh's of old.

You'll be fine with crank brothers in terms of longetivity. I have 2 pairs of mallets race and a pair of mallet E's and all were second hand to me, had no issues over the past 2 years over varying conditions.

The shorter spindle length on the mallet E's wasn't too bad but I did notice it being shorter than the mallet race, I was using five ten hellcats so not the narrowest of shoes though. I ended up swapping the axles to give some more clearance.

I may have a pair of mallet race (the red ones) with shorter axles (from the E's) if it's of any interest but can't remember if they have end caps .
