You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi I am up in Fife in August and will get one day free and was planning on heading to craigvinean forest but unfortunately the uplift by progression bikes will not be running during the week I am up there. Are the trails still available outside of uplift times? (I am aware of Scottish access laws but I also repeat trails if they are considered private out of respect of the work that goes into them).
Other downhill alternatives suggestions welcome within 1.5-2hr of East Fife.
FC manages the land, they are open public trails.
For the Dunkeld downhill track - head to the hermitage car park. As you pull off the A9 into the car park area keep to the far right and follow the fire road up to the quarry car park by the gate. It’s an easy push up from there.
Lots of other Enduro stylee trails accessible from there too.
Oh and the trails were there long before Progression Bikes were. There is some question of how much they do to maintain trails versus the local riders.
Thanks for the info and heads on the local rider maintenance. Sounds good.
That's a weird one oldtennisshoes. From my experience of trail maintenance in the last few years Doug, and Adam from progression are the 2 main men when it comes to putting digging hours in.
Well I wet there today in the pissing rain and u could see there were some excellent trails but hard to find.
Found a amazing first run by riding nearly to the top of the fire road starting from quarry car park, so slippery so lots of small falls but worth the effort. Real challenge. Ended up near b898. Then tried to find more trails that ended up closer to car park but only found short runs. Shame the uplift does not run more often as the first trail I did was excellent just a long way up and ended up a fair way from the route that I knew to get back up.
The trails are all on the Trailforks site. Climb ups are long there distance wise though the angle is fairly gentle compared to other venues nearby. Personally, Craigvinean is my least favourite of the Dunkeld venues.
Thanks for the tip. It's only the rare opertunity to go for a ride in Scotland. Visiting family in Fife so a only a quick day pass.
The other venues he mentions are still all around Dunkeld, you can easily link them all together in a normal ride. Unfortunately id also agree that Craigvinean area is my least favourite part of the area
