Hi All

Today i washed my bike for the first time for several months (after all the dry weather), and i've noticed that i have cracks in the paint around where one of the upper pivot bolts screw in

So my question for other Bronson owners is has anyone else had this happen ? - did you get it warrantied ?

Is this sort of of cracking going to lead to a massive failure while i ride the bike ?

I've checked the bearing and they are all running smoothly

you need more paint off (both sides) so you can see if there's a crack beneath it IMO

You're going to need an expert opinion on that. If it is just the paint then purely cosmetic and carry on, but that looks bad, like the carbon below is damaged which has caused movement and the paint to fracture. I can't think of another plausible reason for that cracking. The only way to be sure yourself would be to remove all the paint, which I'd leave to whoever deals with the warrantee.

And I'd not be riding it until I'd had it checked.

Assuming you're the original owner you've either got a 5 year or lifetime warranty depending on when you bought it so I'd be going straight to santa cruz for their view as that's not crash damage

Bit more than a paint crack IMO - that's toast!

if Bones was looking at your frame he’d would look back at Captain Kirk and utter something like “I’m a Doctor not a carbon fibre laminator, but it’s dead Jim”

I would get that checked out, I wouldn't be riding it.

You could try bouncing on it with someone filming the crack in slow motion to see if there’s movement

Hi All

Thanks for input

logged a support call with santacruz , since SC changed ownership does anyone know if their warranty is worldwide now ?

As i original bought my bronson in Crested butte when my old ellsworth snapped while on holiday, then the Original Bronson frame cracked and I had to get the replacement from the USA and ended up having to pay shipping and duty on the replacement frame

If i do get a new frame its going to hurt my wallet as i'll have to go boost and replace my 2x groupset

I don't think duty applies on warranty repairs. I could be wrong tho!

Are you taking talking about the little white lines around the pivot bolt? Assume that the big thing that looks like a crack running down the tube is actually the edge of some helitape?

Slackman could be right, if it is helitape it’s not cut very well.

That's just a sticker... 😉

around the bolt looks like an insert has disbonded.

I thought we were looking at the big black line - the serration marks around the pivot bolt and just 'witness marks' in the paint, nothing to worry about

For once that is actually just a sticker.

Duty does apply to warranty repair. You have to pay the duty on the new frame then claim it back on the old frame. That is presuming you still have all the paperwork to show you paid duty on the original frame.

I can speak from personal experience how much this hurts having had to pay twice because I didn't have any paper work to prove i'd already paid duty on a custom Ti frame.

Personally I'd just ride it until it becomes a problem then see if it was worth the shipping/import/tax costs.

You're not going to die suddenly from that thread de bonding.

Oh, me too. Really thought the grey mark was a big chip out of the paint! Why would you not cut that protection tape to the shape of the fillet in the shock mount?!

Oh, err, well - we knew that <cough> <blushes>

Splendid to see a genuine case of "just a sticker" !

Update - I may well die if i carry on riding the bike

I've got to cut the frame up send PIC to SC and they are going to send me a replacement frame !!

They may be expensive but the warranty is great

Only downside is i need to go boost on rear wheel, get a new seatpost and new bolt on front mech

Good news, boost adaptors available and USE do a 100mm shim for seat posts.

Just go 1x anyway it's what it's set for 😉

“I’ve got to cut the frame up send PIC to SC and they are going to send me a replacement frame !!”

For a few little marks in the paint? I’d be thinking “Poor frame”, but then I always anthropomorphise things, even though I know they hate it....

For a few little marks in the paint?

Is it possible that they're looking at the same sticker we all were ?

If so, what a ridiculous waste of a frame. I don't even think I'd have looked at those little white marks twice. Given it's around an area where there will be metal threads bonded into the carbon, it's bound to have more movement.

I recognized the big one as a sticker, I was struggling to see what you were talking about. There's a super faint scratch on the top part, I was wondering if it was that, tragically.

as well as the small cracks around the bolt (where the insert fro the bolt was debonding, there was a small crack opening up on the flat bit above the bolt hole

I'm going to feel bad when i kill her this weekend, I'm now  a serial Bronson killer as i had to do the same with my first Bronson 3 years ago  (Although that did have a much bigger crack)

Got to say again though you cant beat the warranty on SantaCruz - I remember the bad old days when i had an Ellsworth - what your main triangle has cracked ? - pay us £800 for a rear triangle !!

The SC/Jungle warranty department are great in my experience, congratulations on the new frame Zinger. Did you get a choice of colours?

Hang on, that's the old Bronson in the bottom right of the new frame photo!? You sure that's not a photo shop hacksaw, and now you are the proud owner of 2 Bronson's? 😁

nope that my other bronson !!!

I liked my bronson mk1 so much that when i saw a frame in a sale after the mk2 was released , i bought it as a spare 😎

It made sense to do this to me as i have a load of non boost wheels and 30.9 seatposts as well

Surely everyone has a spare bronson in their front room , just in case their main Bronson breaks
