After cleaning my bike yesterday I found a crack in the top of my rigid forks. I'm a little worried to ride it, as it is about 3mm or so away from the welds, and so is at the Heat Affected Zone (look at me with the technical terms 🙂 - part of my dissertation is on this). Hence I suspect it is an actual crack rather than just in the paint from flexing. I haven't ridden on it and don't plan to in its current state.

Here's a photo of it up close:

I bought the bike second hand off ebay in August last summer, and it was in as new condition apart from tyres and spds. I've used it for around 500 miles since, but as I live in West London it hasn't exactly been ridden hard. Mostly canal towpaths and road over the winter.

What are the chances that I will be covered by a warranty? From what I understand the warranty is not transferable between owners, but has anybody had success before? Its a cracking bike and I adore it, and I'm sad that I can't ride it for now! Cheers, Chris

Warranty isn't transferrable though if you're upfront with them, some companies will still do a much cheaper replacement part (trade plus vat sort of price )

If your doing a dissertation on it you know you have no idea if its actually a crack until you take the paint off. 😆

I agree, can't actually tell from the outside alone without taking paint off. However, the balance of probabilities suggests because of it's location that it's the metal. If it were somewhere else then I would be stripping some paint off to investigate further.
