My hummer has cracked after 4 months of riding absolutely gutted!

I love every thing about the frame but with only a 2 year warranty I'm now not filled with confidence!

Can anyone out there suggest a frame that has the same feel. I did ride a On-One 456. Not my cup of tea!

Having a Soda myself can't recommend them highly enough but "only" 120mm and you may struggle getting one as they're currently not making anymore.

Brodie Ti Holeshot ? Only one I could think "may" be like a Hummer.

Ti Duster ?

Sorry to hear that, i've just bought one from merlin, but i had to send it back yesterday for a replacement as the headtube was not reamed out to the correct size to accept headset cups. The frame is advertised with silverfish the importers as having a 5yr warranty, hold them to it.

Did it crack at the seat tube/top tube/rear upper stay cluster?, if so then check out my recent thread with regard to the seatpost shim not being long enough.

Hi,
yep cracked in the same place. Silverfish said it's only a 2 year warranty with the lynskey frames. I really would like another but in two minds now. Would I be bette off with a older on off eBay!

I dunno why they are still punting these frames out with a 60mm depth shim as that is why these frames are cracking - it doesn't take an friggin engineering genius to come to the definitive conclusion that a 60mm shim that is inserted to the middle section of a highly stressed area such as the seat tube/seat stay/top tube cluster will cause stress fractures.

See my pics below which may explain better, for what's it's worth i've told merlin before they send out my replacement frame to remove the fitted 60mm shim and fit a industry standard 100mm depth shim as that will transfer any seatpost flex/loads further down the seatpost tube where the elastic modulus of Titanium will be more than capable of dealing with the loads. If they fit the shim correctly using a suitable Loctite product such as a 648 retaining compound then the shim will further strengthen this area, if they refuse to do this then i'll consider them incompetent as they'll have to go through the expense of warrantying a new frame needlessly - it's up to them i guess. Bloody shame as apart from this well known issue they are a cracking (no pun intended) frame, I had my frame X-Rayed at my fathers engineering workplace and there is no issue with the welding or tubing quality.

I've tried to contact Silverfish with two emails detailing why these frames are cracking along with the very simple solution as above and i've also contacted Lynskey by email but i've had no reply from either? - if anyone can flag this thread up to Richie or anyone else at Silverfish i'd be most grateful to get a response from them

Just to reiterate for other folk reading this, my new hummer frame is not cracked - i sent it back to Merlin as the frame they sent me did not have the headtube reamed, as i found out when i tried to fit the hope headset.

The above pic shows how far/what depth the seatpost shim is inserted to which you can see ends right in the middle of one of the most highly stressed weld areas on an mtb as it is the junction point for various impact stresses.

why is the seat tube shimmed, Ti Wall thickness to thin?

Avoid like the plague any frame that Lynskey have even looked at.

I've had 3 crack.

In different places.

Never again.

They were much better when they were made by Litespeed.

Looks like I did right to keep my 10 year old Ti Sports Hummer then. Its value can only increase due to threads like this! 🙄
