Just reserved myself a Bfe Max from Cotic. It won't land until December but I thought I had better get started now with the component buying, what with stock issues as they are.

Its been a few years since I built up anything so I'm lost beyond 26", straight steerers and triples...

So far its the:

Bfe Max in Copper (29 HT)
DT Swiss bargain F535 fork from Wiggle
Cane Creek HS (fitted by Cotic)

The only other item that I am sure about is a Charge Spoon saddle. Can anyone recommend 'mid level' stuff that will get the rest of the build sorted? Would rather have 'better' 1x11 than bottom end 1x12 if that were a choice!

If you can point to stuff in stock that would also help - anyone picked up bargains lately?

Cheers

I picked up 1 x 12 drive chain set from Evo Cycles this week for £395. Good price for the set though depends on your budget. Shows are waiting for rear mechs on the website but I ordered on Friday after they checked stock at Maddison and it all arrived today. They are warning some parts are heading out of stock till early 2021 so agree with the buy it now approach.

Do you have a preference for SRAM or Shimano?

I really like the 12 speed SLX on my Rail. It hasn’t needed adjustment in 1300+ miles and still shifts sweetly.

Preference - not really. Had SRAM mainly in the past but certainly not wedded to it. Just trying to careful that I buy the right stuff in that I don't quite understand how boost fits into all of this! If at all!

R2 bikes have the SLX groupset for a pretty good price, I got mine from there. Due back in stock in November but you can order it now.

I'm doing the exact same thing as you and have been squirrelling away parts for a while now. So far I have…

– Cheap 140mm 34's from Wiggle (Said they were non boost but they are boost)

– Nukeproof Neutron Wheelset from Chainreaction, perhaps not my first choice but they were in stock which seems to count for a lot these days plus I can always return them if something better turns up

– A mixture of SLX and Deore 12spd. Mostly from Bikediscount, cassette from Merlin plus a crankset from the Classifieds

I figured that covered off most of the things where stock seems to be an issue, I didn't want to get to December and not be able to get hold of anything! I'm on a pretty tight budget and want it to be built fairly tough but not too weighty so my spec choices have been based on that plus availability. I just need to find some decent brakes and some bars and I'm pretty much there (Plus I'll be swapping some bits across from my FS).

I started buying parts back in June and finally got most of it together this month. Currently waiting on wheels which I hope will be with me later this week as they had to order the wheels and hubs from the distibutors.

The drivetrain and brakes came from Germany, wheels are coming from evo cycles, longest wait has been for my pedals as they came from Canada.

Pedals from Canada, eh? Do they apologise for rock strikes?
