Anyone else doing this year's Cotswold Cross?
https://www.bagman.website/cotswoldcross/
Im doing the 55k at the moment.
Yes with a few from our club - not tried it before but done the mud fest that is HONC. Gentle build up for Dirty Reiver and Gralloch.
I've not done it before, many on line are saying gravel bike is probably the best, but I'm unsure if my gravel will be running by then - so I may end up on the xc fat bike.....
I'm doing it.
Did it on my MTB last year and was fairly comfortable. Its a lightish hardtail with some fast rolling tyres!
If weather stays wet then a light mtb will be a decent call. Always did HONC on one. Went out with buddies last Saturday and took a rigid Stache, while they were on gravel bikes. Sloppy off road sections generally easier on the Stache with 2.3 Barzo's; obvious trade off is its harder work to keep up on road sections. I don't know how much of the course is road. As its not a huge distance probably doesn't matter too much.
I remember it being more gravelly and fields/bridalway with a little road.
Was a fair bit of climbing and the lower gearing was better on the MTB.
Didn't feel to slow on the road sections I did.
Must have been the faster tyres!
Parts for my gravel are arriving on Tuesday so I'll prob do a quick ride on the sat with it, but if it rains or is too sloppy I'll take the fat bike...
Sorry to ask but is anyone travelling from Rugby/Warwickshire area for event?
Having car trouble at present so need some help getting there!
Obviously split on petrol/travel expenses.

Thanks again,

Looking to be super wet and muddy, the decent & climb between Edgeworth and Througham will be interesting on a gravel bike - expecting a lake at the bottom. I've prepped the fat bike as an alternative.

Lack of suitable parking sucks, wouldn't want to pre- start the ride with a 30min climb up leckhampton hill - I'm lucky and getting the wife to drop me off / pick up but I imagine there will be a fair few who pull out.
Email says: errr, if you can bring a MTB, might be a good choice!
If you see someone going slow on a drop bar singular say hello
Well it's absolutely chucking it down this am and I live slap bang in the middle of the course....
I was in and out of this all day today on my own ride - was absolutely filthy out there and the competitors looked it!
Was nice to be cheered on by the Marshalls even though i wasn’t taking part.
First 10 miles were slop. Got better, last half was nice. Decided on the 55 though. Bit down into, then out of Sheepscombe was my highlight. Longest climb was the one to get to the start!
I had the wife drop me off and pick me up so I got to miss the leckhampton hill climb! Wife said people did not look at all happy coming up into the farm....
I did the 55 on the fat bike, enjoyed the first part in the slop - much I'd never ridden as it's the 'wrong' side of the 417 to me. Did it fair bit quicker than I thought I would too so I'm happy.
Saw some poor sod hit a rut and take a dive and swim in one of the massive puddles on the off road section just before Winstone (the first 75/55 split).
