Just sold the dd frameset as i need my cross bike to commute with as well, now toying between the x with a kinesis fork and the pro6 both built with sram rival or a boardman cx team. Main uses will be commuting, a cross country training ride once a week and the odd bit of racing and 3 peaks.
anyones views of each or all would be most welcome

I've just bought a green cotic x mainly for commuting. Not built up yet but will be 105.
It's very nice but looking at it its possibly too nice for commuting every day! The new carbon fork has loads of clearance.
Should have it built by the weekend.
No help whatsoever 🙂
i have a cotic X, no light weight, but very comfy, i commute on it with full guards and slicks and have done 100 mile + rides on it
I have the pro6 - there are plenty of threads about them on here.
I love it. Nice and light, good geometry and has all the necessary holes to attach proper guards, racks and bottles.
Did the three peaks on it too, was ideal. But as I've never ridden the others I can't comment.
I'd check that the other options have guard mounts if you want them.
I have the current model Boardman CX Team - and it's blimmin brilliant.
REALLY impressed with the handling, powerful brakes & easy to set up. Goes quick, very nice finish to the whole frame & fork, tough paint racey enough to race & stable enough as an every day bike.
I can't fault it - really good bikes.
EDIT - has full guard and rack mounts
EDIT2 - I changed all the Apex stuff to 105 and a few other bits and bobs that I already had off the previous bike.
the conclusion is: they're all good 🙂
So which one is the colour you like? 😉
yep, they are all good 🙂
I had a ride on the medium Boardman and found it a little long for me.
I was surprised as I'm normally bang on for medium everything when it comes to bikes.
But then I saw compared geometry with the competition and saw that it was 555mm whereas most others were around the 545mm mark.
Would going for the size small (540mm) be a good idea or would I find myself using spacers and angled stems to compensate?
a 10mm shorter stem would be a good starting point for me, depending on what you have at the moment. The stock stem lengths on team CX's are relatively long for their size, and if you're running the SRAM shifters, they add quite a bit of reach over, say, a set of 105 5600's, and possibly a little bit over 5700's though I haven't directly compared them.
The last year has been a bit of an eye opener for me in how much more stuff other than frame dimensions affect a road bike feel & handling - bars, shifters, stem etc... all combine to affect reach & feel.
I've never owned a road-going bike, so it's a tricky one to get a feel for.
All I know is that I had an achy neck after both of my 1hour rides on the medium boardman.
My mountain bikes have always had roughly a 23" top tube.
I have the Boardman Team CX and it's great, with a couple of minor reservations:
The Avid BB5s need fairly regular adjustment for wear to keep them working well
I'm not a massive fan of either the SRAM doubletap system or the shape of the hoods (much prefer the Ultegra on my road bike)
For the price though (I paid under £750 with cashback and a Halfords 10% off code) they're superb value, and the frame is really very nice indeed. Mudguards are easy enough to fit, you might need to put a slight bend in one of the stays to get round the front disc mount though.
The boardman's gone up £50 overnight. That means waiting for the inevitable 'sale'. sigh.
Check the stock on the Boardmans, as my opinion is they are running out in some areas prior to the 203 range (Decemeber they said, but date keeps moving), recently bought one and those that they did have left were display models.

It looked like they were doing that back in July - pretty much everywhere had run out. I managed to get one, but had to drive a bit to get it... Since the price rise, stock suddenly seems much more available.
Don't forget they sometimes do the £70 off online, which if you're collecting in store, can be used in conjunction with 10% through British Cycling membership (£13 at its most basic), along with a further 4% off with Quidco in-store cashback 🙂
I just checked the local stock and you're right, it has increased massively. A fortnight ago, the nearest large Team CX was 30 miles away and it was a display model with damage (went even further afield in the end), this week they are everywhere.
Raises questions as to when the 2013 range will hit the shelves...if indeed it does!
Interestingly there is no small any more.
They've also run out of the Fi Comp mountain bikes which my sister-in-law was trying to get.
Anyway - no doubt there'll be a discount/sale soon. Shame the NUS code doesn't work any more 🙁
I'm really enjoying my Cotic X. Feels lovely to ride and looks nice. It is pretty heavy though, and I've found the carbon fork to be disconcertingly flexible under braking. The new one comes with a revised fork though.
I've had a Cotic X for a year,it gets used on local trails,tow paths,back lanes etc...and more recently Cross races,which are addictive.
A fine bike, but I would expect the others are just as good, but different.
