I just ordered a Cotic X frameset. I was planning on running a 1x10 setup for commuting and general fooling around on weekends. Anyone running af similar setup? And what are you using, mtb or road cranks?

I'm a mtb'er and never owned a roadbike, which means my knowledge about roadgear is limited. I'm working on that though.

Really, I just want to see pictures of your builds, whether its road, mtb single, double, tripple setups etc. So please post some pics, thx.

You'll be delighted to hear that my work has blocked that site, categorising it as "Pornography"

Don't know if this'll help, but I run a Soma Double Cross DC, which is a similar sort of steel disc-braked cross beast with a 105 compact double up front and an 11-32 mountain bike cassette at the back - if you ride hilly stuff off road a standard road cassette on anything steep is hard work.

I used to run 1x9 on a RoadRat with 11-34 at the back and a mountain bike crank-set, LX I think, at the front with a mountain bike big ring, a 42 I think, and that worked okay all-round though occasionally I ran out of gears descending on the road.

Both set-ups worked okay but the road compact double just gives you a wider spread at either end. That said I'm Peak District based so a lot of my riding is quite hilly. A 42 front with a mountain bike cassette would probably cope with most stuff in a flatter sort of area.

Campag Veloce 10s, triple chainset (road) (50,39,30), 11-30 cassette, hope hubs on open pro rims (hand built by myself), shimano tiagra disk brakes, pro finishing kit. Mudguards for commuting.

It ain't light, but I can get up any hill and I loves it!

Mine has 8 speed Record shifters, a 38/48 double c/s with a shimano 13/28 at the back. Ancient Record front mech and Super Record rear. BB7's. Mudguards fitted, the front fitment at the rear is sh***. Midge bars and either a Spoon or s Brooks saddle. Heavy but a nice ride. ridden on gravel 5 days a week.

Thanks for replying. I live in Denmark. I think its safe to say that its flat, no matter what you compare to :-).

I think 1x10 would work well for on- and off road, but it will take some experimenting to find the right gearing. I'm seriously considering a road double too, for versatility. I just really hate front mechs.

I have some single ring mtb cranks and a 40t chainring already. I will give it a go, with a 11-28/32 cassette and se how it works out. If it doesn't the road double is most likely the way to go.

I still would like to see som pics, so please post them, thx.
