Evening all,
Im after another hardtail frame, i had a Cotic Soul before and really liked it but due to unforseen circumstances i had to sell it at the start of the year before i really rode it off road.
I am very tempted to buy another frame and build it up with the parts from the frame i sold, but i am also tempted my the deals on the On One 455 Carbon frame.
Thanks for any advice,
Mike.
They've got c456's with slight paint imperfections for £299 at the moment (the plain black ones), that's where my money would be going if i was after a hardtail frame.
Ragley Blue Pig...
I looked at those 456 frames before...my mate has one and he likes it..although he mainly uses it as a commuter..;-) all those kerbs on his way to work need a hard hitting bike to ride safely!
Not sure why but im not keen on the blue pig.
456 looks bargaintastic! I like the slightly forgiving ride a steel frame gives though, perhaps the carbon will be a bit stiff at the rear?
Save your dosh and just get a normal 456 for about £150. you'll not stop smiling all the time you ring it's neck.
spend the rest on some bling bits n bobs
Got all the bling bits and bobs sitting waiting for a bling frame. It is between the soul and the carbon 456....maybe.
Carbon 456 then for me 🙂
i thought the point of a 456 was to put it down/over stuff that you'd probably want to avoid doing on a carbon HT ?
it's designed as a hard hitting do all HT so should be good for whatever you want to do on it?
want to avoid doing on a carbon HT ?
Why?
Not heard of a broken c456 yet certainly never worried me using mine on jumps and over rocks etc.
fair enough, if you're doing that stuff and surviving.
wouldn't fancy it myself though.
why? carbon is stronger and more easily repairable than alu
well, i've got a carbon full sus and a steel 456 as it happens.
i'm quite happy that i can see a difference in appropriate usage for both of them.
persoanally I find my c456 more forgiving than the steel 456 it replaced.
The steel 456 is a bit of a thug really - it'll get you through stuff but it's not got a huge amount of finesse about it.
suits my style down to the ground 😉
just gone from a steel 456 to a Soul. Very impressed. The 456 is great fun and loves to be thrashed. People say they are harsh but this is a relative term - I never had a problem with it.
Having said that, the Soul has a much smoother rear end and yet is still good on fast descents. If you want a capable steel frame with a good ride then the Soul has all these qualities. Paint/finish/design is also top notch.
Not tried a carbon 456 so can't compare with that.
I don't know about the c456 but my "standard" 456 handles brilliantly. I would caution tho...the c456 can't take tapered rockshox forks, headtube is to short for that, tho I reckon it's not that big of a deal if you don't have a tapered fork.
the c456 can't take tapered rockshox forks
although an extended crown race is/will soon be available to allow this.
I've not noticed the c456 to be harsh, quite comfy actually.
I had a similar quandry to OP but the biggest soul wasn't big enough for me so got the 456 and while I have a couple of very minor issues I'm rather pleased with it.
Man sized ones can!c456 can't take tapered rockshox forks

Yes it can! 🙂

I've got one! + 3mm on the head race cured it for me, but I also have a +5mm race too (Not for sale!)
Have a read through this:

If you can wait a couple of weeks I'll have a C456 to compare to my old Soul...
Tapered steerer issue only affects the small doesn't it?
