My Hope BBs have run and run… the axle size is determined by the chainset.

I have the normal Hunt XC Wide on my Solaris Max and am really happy with the weight and build quality. I think the Race version is slightly lighter - not sure I would notice the benefit but the non- race one is slightly wider so I thought would give me more tyre choice.

I’m running XT 12 speed boost drive train. Drive train came with the standard MT800 bb and that’s fine - same bb on my previous bikes lasts about 18 months - but under £20 - so fair enough value. I really like the XT 12 speed setup - very easy to get installed and super smooth changes. I’m running 32t chainring and clearance is just about OK to the chain stay. It should take a 34t but not sure the clearance would be great. Might be worth talking to Cotic about best combination of chain set variant and chain ring size if going over 32? Having said that, the range on 32 with 10-51 sprockets is good anyway!

I went for 120 Pike Select - bit heavier than the SID but not massively - and probably better for my more general trail riding. Fork suits the bike well - well balanced and light to ride with no flex when the going gets rough.

I have a Hope BB.

My experience is that it goes through bearings quite quickly. I followed all of Hope’s setup advice and was careful not to over tighten my crank, but the bearings only last for about 6 months before they become rough.

I like buying kit I can repair rather than replace, but when replacement bearings cost more than new shimano XT BBs, economically it doesn’t make sense.

When I built my most recent Bike I fitted a XT BB.

Thanks looks like a XT BB is the way to go. Running GX eagle on my other bike so might go with Shimano on this.

Xt 12 speed, sid ultimates, dt 350s/240s onto your dt rim of choice..

Looks like XT is the way to go , got DT 240s on my Bird and impressed with the wheels. Not built a bike up for years there is so much choice these days

I went with the Pike Select in the end on mine after having issues with a set of Ultimates. Wheels are Hunt XC Wide and drive train is X01 AXS. I ended up getting a Sram Dub BB and it's been fine.

Can't fault it so far!

Hope 24mm BB, original bearings lasted for 3 years.

I decided on the the solarismax rolling chassis with components I have used for years with no probs and rate highly, hope BB HS, rockshox Pikes and then added my preferred XT group as I’ve had bad experiences with sram.
Unfortunately I had to add the hunt trail wide to bump the price to the 24mnth finance price I could afford.

hunt trailwide are shite, after 250miles the rear hub died, the seals are terrible and they dent easier than tech enduros. Fair play to hunt as they replaced them with their recommended endurowide due to suit my ‘riding style’ but I buckled the rear within a week and found them sluggish. That is riding just Xc as I wanted to keep them in good condition and sell them ASAP to help fund a new wheelset.

Reading the reviews you would think they are bombproof, are they ****.

Hope pro4 on XM481 have been trouble free for the last 6 months/1000+ miles of carefree riding.

That seems strange! I’ve changed the bearings once in my Hope BB. It’s ten years old and has done about 7000 miles across three frames, in all weathers. That’s with both GXP and Shimano cranks. Actually it’s had four different cranks in there too.
