Hi,
So I'm in the market for a 150mm travel frameset and I'm really liking the look of the new Rocket.
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with them yet seeing as they are so new?
What's good about them, what to watch out for, any issues so far etc etc.
Cheers all
I hear they are similar to the 26" version that I have, the one big difference is that the trails come alive even more!!!!! 😉
I am of course biased as I have one, but so far it has proved to be all I expected, e.g.an easier rolling even more capable version of the original 26" Rocket. It is easy enough to pedal and has proved no problem on any of the local climbs in the Malverns-harder work than my hardtail but then....
The frame builds to a reasonable weight and is very good on the downhill sections.
The only issue I have had is routing the stealth Reverb-I did manage it in the end but it was a PITA, although apparently It is not a common problem and was probably due to a burr on the slot in the tube catching the hose.
Edit: I have it set up with a 160 fork, 150 is the minimum recommended I believe
What did you guys ride before?
I had a 2007 GT iDrive before my 26er, not a great comparison i'm afraid but I do love the rocket. Just had it resprayed and about to build it back up, good climber and likes to go fast. It has moments of dullness when you are just plodding though, once you give it some welly it is ace.
Of roughly the same sort of bike, I have had a 26" Rocket, a SC heckler and an Orange 5. The 26" Rocket was a real step ahead of the other two the 275 Rocket is a marginal gain, but still a tangible improvement.
I have also been used to riding shorter travel 29ers and the intermediate wheel size feels more like a 26" in handling
Another thing worth pointing out, the guy who did the respray commented on how well it was built with regards to care and attention on the welds etc. He was very impressed.
Cool, thanks for the input. Which shocks are you running?
Fox factory CTD Kashima with a volume reducer-I bought the Rocket frame only and used a shock I already had on the 26" Rocket-as it worked so well on the original bike including a busy week in the Alps I kept with it.
If I were to upgrade some time in the future it would probably be to the Fox Float X
I just have the base level Fox RL and when I phoned up Cy to ask for guidence on a replacement shock, it was suggested that I spend the money on upgrades elsewhere as that shock does the job as well as anything. Only caveat was unless you want one you can fiddle with and tweak, I didn't
I have exactly the same, a spare float factory ctd kashima shock in the right size. Hence I'm looking at the frame without the shock.
Just buy it, you won't be dissapointed. Until you see my paint job that is..............

If it is, that's REAL nice...
If it is, just down the road from me!
nice
nearly the right colour
I'd have had one by now if it were black. might have to pick orange and paint it.
It is indeed, still in 3 bits unfortunately and wrapped in bubblewrap
@john I was itching to give you a load of stick for respraying the frame as its supposed to be a ruffty tuffty mountain bike .... but now perhaps not 🙂
Don't they paint them in the UK? If you really, really wanted a none standard colour or a flashy paint job could you beg them for a frame with just the black primer dip?
I'd much prefer the new Rocket if it wasn't in Tic Tac colours. The new gray Bfe with the yellow logo is the best scheme yet in my opinion.
@jambalaya and it was free, wouldn't have even considered it if I hadn't won a competition. Now I have seen it I am now thinking of more intricate and expensive designs for 3yrs time.
If anyone wants a cracking respray with airbrushing Alistair is the man.
@Sharkattack - it was 3yrs old and a bit battered, I didn't repaint a new one!
