Currently building a Cotic Flaremax with a Rockshox Select Plus airshock.
Wondering if I should upgrade to the Cane Creek airshock before the build?
If I buy one aftermarket it would not be tuned to the bike as you buy it from Cotic but may be worth the investment to start with?
Has anyone ridden both?
Regards,
Max
No - but I have a FlareMax. It came with a CCIL - which Cotic swapped for me for a CCDB, which was much better at give the travel I expected.
It was tuned by TF Tuned last year - and will be next winter again,
I have a RS Super deluxe ultimate on a Privateer 161 - and that has also be great
Not ridden both but have the CC on my gen4 and it's awesome. So plush and feels like more travel than my 140mm occam.
I thought the cotic tune is just the dial adjustments available on their website so if you did upgrade later then it shouldn't be an issue. But I may be wrong on that.
Worth noting that whilst it has a climb switch, it's nowhere near a lockout but it can be firmed up more by certain adjustments.
I haven't ridden both but the CC IL air shock works brilliantly on my FlareMAX - the base settings are on the Cotic website and work great plus Cotic customer service is ace if you have any queries - there's also an excellent blog article about suspension set-up on the site that's well worth reading.
I had my CC serviced by TFT when it developed a clicking noise and, in all honesty, their suggested settings weren't as good for me as the Cotic base tune and after a couple of rides I put it back to the stock set-up.
I'd maybe have a chat with Cotic about the pros and cons of the different shocks. Far and away the best bike brand I've ever dealt with, sorted me out when my CC needed fixing technically outside of the warranty period - it had done really low miles thanks to long covid - and re-fitted the repaired shock for me so they could be certain there were no issues with frame alignment etc.
+1 CCIL
My Gen 2 Flaremax has done over 5,000m and 1 million feet of ascending/descending, serviced by TFTune once at 3 years old.
Super plush and feels 'bottomless'.
It was recommended by Cy, glad I took his advice.
Thanks guys.
I will have a word with Cotic and see what they say!
Thanks again,
Max.
