A recent eBay purchase makes me a little bit sick in the mouth now that I see it in the flesh. I have a lovely Mk5 Cotic Soul in Mecury and Magenta but with purple anodised hope and burgtec bits (hubs, headset, pedals, seat clamp...). The purple and magenta don't really work well together.
I assume it will be cheaper and easier to lose the magenta graphics rather than the purple components? On my old cotic frames the graphics just peel off but these seem better fixed or possibly covered. How do I get them off? Could I just cover them instead or should I just learn to embrace the bold colour combination and revel in the added visual contribution from the gold and blue dials on the forks?
Sounds disgusting. How about some pics?
Seriously though if it bothers you it would be really easy to have someone with a vinyl cutter make some decals to cover the existing ones.
I was bidding on that! *shakes fist*
If it's not to your liking, I could always relieve you of it? 😉
Ha. Sorry! I really didn't think that I would win it. I do have an old Pipedream Sirius needing a new home now though 😁.
Looking on the Cotic outlet it looks like this may have actually been an original colour scheme (unless 2 people had rhe same taste in customization)...the magenta mud guard was definitely too much though.
Plain black vinyl decals sound like they could be the solution which hopefully tones everything down a little.
I've always liked that colour scheme - but yes, purple addition sounds rather, err, hopping...
Ha, no worries, it went higher than I really should have been spending anyway.
If it's anything like my assorted other Cotics, the decals are under the lacquer, so hard to swap. Can possibly just stick over the top, though?
Matching anodising is a dark (forbidden?) art at the best of times.

I’m afraid it’s not possible to remove the graphics without damage. You’d likely take the Mercury paint off leaving black patches of the coating beneath showing (shouldn’t go down to bare steel though). These aren’t on top of powdercoat like the very early Cotic frames. You could perhaps stick other graphics over the top to hide the magenta though. I’ll have a think about what might work with existing rather than custom stuff. Downtube panel should be easy, but on that one the model logos and seat tube stripe would be tricky to cover. Worst comes to the worse, I can get you files of all the original artwork, so you can get new cover up vinyl decals made in a different colour.
This pack might cover up the Soul logos and the downtube panel (if you punch an extra hole in the panel):

Let me know the frame size and I’ll check tomorrow.
Oh, despite helping with this route… if it was me, I’d try and swap the components or live with the purple & magenta combo. It’s a ‘strong’ look, for sure, but there are dull bikes everywhere… live the garish life! Or find a purple fan to do swapsies.
Thank you, it's a large frame. I don't really notice the stripe and so the logo and panel could work until I'm able to migrate all of the purple out or learn to love it.
Its fiddly but a mate of mine used some kind of chemical dip to remove the anodising of lots of little parts, including pedals to get a cleaner look.
The white Soul logos in the decal sheet pack can be used to cover up the magenta logos, just checked and the logos are the same size, with a white border/bleed around them.
Damn, the panel in that pack isn't long enough. The one on that Soul is longer.
😔
@bubs - drop Cotic an email if you want a PDF file to get your own vinyl panel cut... they'll pass the details on to me. I'd learn to love or do some component swapping if it was me though.
Thanks for trying. I think I'll see how I get on riding with darker glasses for now or let my kids loose with some sharpies.
🤣
