Is it just me or does this seem shockingly high - £250 for a rear derailleur and £300 for a cassette!!!

Low volume manufacturing using expensive materials and processes will always lead to high costs.

It's only for racers/sponsored riders really, don't fret yourself.

To be fair the cassette is machined from 1 lump of 4130 Chromo so is far more durable than an alloy cassette.
Remember that X7, X9 & X0 all come in 2x10 flavours now too.
X7 gruppo price is £399.

yep its really only to showcase SRAM as being a 'market leader', helping to sell x0 x9 and x7 2x10 sets. No real world use beyond racers and idiotic bike tarts.

Regardless of the tech, it's overpriced.

+ idiots.

It wont catch on as even gear queers want their bits easily recognised on a trail.

You won't see a full X9 or X7 groupset as there's no official brakes/chainset or hubs for them. They're a gears only package, at least for the moment.

There are hardly any alu cassettes, KCNC and Recon are about the only companies doing MTB ones. XTR is half ti half steel, everything else is steel anyway. The XX one is beautifully made though!

I've been running XX all season, if I'd upgraded from XTR (or paid anywhere near full price!) I'd be a bit annoyed, it's very good, but not worth the money. The cassette doesn't last any longer than anything else, mine's visibly burred already (why would it anyway, as above it's just steel, like virtually anything else), the jockey wheels were trashed in one muddy race (£120) and the big ring is ripe for the bin (£106), the new X.0 cassette looks good if I don't eek the XX one out for the rest of the season!
