I was wondering if anyone could offer any opinions on the Corratect X-Vert Halcon on CRC? (I have never heard of them) - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=75509

It's for my dad, who unfortunately had his Cube stolen from his bike rack in Calais just before bording the channel tunnel home, they cut through the lock wire.

He doesn't want to spend a lot, as it will mostly be used for gravel paths walking the Dog in the New Forest, and the occasional blat around Ashton Court and Leigh Woods with me.

Any other opinions on cheap bikes? Budget wise it is about £300, I might be able to push him a smidge over..

Thanks

Not ridden one but they're very popular on the continent and a bike shop around here that sells pretty good stuff also sells them so I can only assume they're decent

A shop local to me sells them, they as all makes come in all price brackets. Look nice.

£330 gets a Carrera Centos from Halfords with cable discs.

or £300 rockrider from Decathlon.

Thanks for your input.

I like the Decathlon Rockrider - http://www.decathlon.co.uk/rockrider-53-2012-id_8206682.html

A better choice?

The Decathlon looks good and where I would go.

Or if he wanted to save money and then perhaps go for a Merida from Merlin:

I bought that Merida a year ago for my girlfriend to bimble/commute on, good bike for the money, it was the best spec for the money by far at the time for a brand new bike, so probably still is today given that prices go up every year.

Merida looks ace for the cash, would give you a bit of dosh for some kit..... Just missed the bike stuff at Aldi, but they still had a few bits left at my local one at the weekend.
