Looking for good recommendations for campsites in Cornwall (or Devon).
Ideally near the beach, good facilities but not after a holiday park (i.e. don’t want pool/bar etc).
Most of the websites / recommendations look very big sites with a lot of tents/caravans packed in.

We stayed here in September last year: https://www.bolberryhousefarm.com/

Nice spot, not far from Hope Cove, lots of choice for beaches within a short drive.

Gwithian Farm near St Ives is good.
It's about a 10 minute walk to the beach over fields and sand dunes and there is a regular bus in to St Ives if you don't want to drive.

Valley Caravan Park

Polzeath, north coast, 3 min walk to beach, great surf, good amenities, lots of space. If you can, find a campsite near a good beach so you don't have to drive every day and be charged for parking. Also means you don't have to take everything down with you - can get back easily if it rains.

There is a bar (not rowdy) / cafe / games room in the camp site if need be and a play area etc. I go every year for May half term with friends and its great.

Been using this place for 5 years and I don't think that the price has gone up in that time.

It's between Padstow and Newquay (the closest village is St Merryn) not much on site apart from a decent toilet/shower/laundry block and small kids playpark. The onsite shop only opens for a hour in the morning and evening for stuff you may have run out of.

Local beaches are brilliant and for the most part dog friendly (great if you have one). We're looking forward to being there in August.

I'd second Gwithian Farm. Been a couple of times and really liked it. Great beach, decent pub over the road, not tiny but definitely not a holiday park. We will be there in September for a long weekend of surfing.

http://www.tregednafarmholidays.co.uk/ Is great. Walk to the beach, 5 min drive to Falmouth centre, 10 mins from Helford River, no designated pitches so you can go where you like, pretty relaxed, all good!

If you’ll include Devon then Lobb Fields near braunton in north Devon matches your requirements.

Near Saunton Sands and Croyd Bay, both of which are nice beaches. It’s clean / well organised and isn’t holiday parky really. I can’t remember if there is a bar or not, but there’s a pub a short walk along the road which is nice, has a a sort of garden terrace and if it hasn’t changed, also does a good curry!

I think they have electric pitches as well as non electric ones if you need / want that.

Quarryfield, in Crantock. Right next to Newquay.

http://www.quarryfield.co.uk/

Poor website but don't let that put you off.

Been going there since I was a kid, then I took my lad there.

I hope he will take his kids there one day.😃

Great, basicish site with a fantastic location and a family friendly beach.... With great body boarding/ surfing just a bit further along the beach.

+1 for Valley Caravan Park.

Great site, walk to the beach in your wetsuits, plus top owners. Doom Bar on tap I seem to remember. The warm outdoor showers are great if you've been in the water all day and your suit is full of sand.

The ducks can be noisy f***ers but it just means you get to make the most of your mornings.

http://www.treagofarm.co.uk/camping.html. We've used this site a few times. 2 beaches within walking distance and a few pubs also.

I was there over the weekend. Didn't see a bar (we walked to the White Lion in Braunton) but there is a small food outlet called Lobb Shack. It was very reasonable at £17 a night for my van and tent.

Treen campsite is fantastic if you're more into the beach than having all the amenities. It's a long way west though, so depending on what else you want to do whilst you're down you might have a bit of a drive.

I second the recommendation for Treen campsite. I’ve stayed there twice. Idyllic spot though you can’t pre-book.
