Assuming you can get an air spring from Fishers or second hand somewhere, is it a straight swap, are all the threads/drillings the right size in the lowers/uppers?

thanks

if they are like revelations the uppers are different so no lip to hold the circlip for the chamber seal

Thanks, I did some digging and reached pretty much the same conclusion, more trouble than its worth basically!

why would you do it? the coil pikes are way better than air

I was thinking the same thing the other day, whilst converting my car to run on liquid gold instead of diesel.

It wont work.
The coil scratches the inside of the forks, meaning the air cartridge cant get a good seal.
you can go from air to coil, but you cant go back.
Im sure somebody will have done this and made it work!, but this is the info I got from TF tuned or Fishers when I looked into it

agreed

i converted my solo lyriks to coil u-turn, best thing i ever did with them, i was advised by TF tuned that i wouldnt be able to do the reverse, word for word what marti said

You could convert them to Air U-Turn though. You'd just need the complete Air U-Turn assembly from a Pike, expensive if you buy the bits new, but if you can find a dead donor fork, it shouldn't be too hard. I kind of prefer the Air Pikes - I like the way they ramp up and the tuneability of them. With standard coil U-Turn Pikes, the stock spring feels just slightly too soft for me and firm is too firm. Now have a Pushed Air U-Turn Pike with a Black Box compression damper and it's really nice.

ps: you can definitely do the conversion, because after I finally trashed my original Air U-Turns - too much Peak - I did exactly that.

I've only ridden air pikes that felt horrible compared to my old coil pikes. Also it only saves around 50g IIRC (comparing the 454 air vs 454 coil - both have the same chassis / alloy steerer).

If you want an upgrade, a blackbox MoCo cartridge will make them a lot smoother on repeated hits, I'd say that was a better way to spend money.

I think you mean the Dual Flow rebound damper rather than the MoCo fwiw. Air Pikes are more tuneable and potentially ramp up more as they do through their travel, set em up right and they're great, but obviously there's more potential to screw things up and the RS pressure recommendations are generally a bit on the high side too. Anyway...

The Blackbox dual flow rebound assms, arn't available any more and the 150mm Revelation (2010) model is a little too long to fit in the 140mm Pike too.
As mentioned above Coil uturn can't be converted to Dual air.
Uturn air can be fitted as it has it's own air chamber, however this is an exspensive conversion, and it could be argued that it won't work any better or possibly be worse than the coil system, the only benefit being a reduction in weight of the forks.

I guess I wanted to do it because I know air rockshox forks, and like the idea of the dual air set up, plus they're on a bike with an air shock at the back, I had some vague idea that it was good to match front and rear? (you can tell I've not owned a full sus for a LONG time..)

As far as I can see the coil u-turn models don't even have a preload adjust, since I'm not likely to use the u-turn feature anyway, how easy to convert to a straight coil set up with a preload adjust?

you can't, you can only buy preload spacers no external preload adjust

I swapped the internals from my coil u-turn revealations with the ones from my Dual air pikes and they still work fine... But then I did swap the uppers at the same time.

Why not sell the coils and buy some air's if that's what you fancy?
