Do it. Not better than geared, just different. My first season SS, but enjoying it so far.

Pick up a cheapo frame and build a cheap ss, makes most sense to me. Maybe even a ridged fork too.

If I could get away with another bike in my garage I would. I am trying to sneak in the idea that I need a time trial bike for next season so probably have to wit till next year. 🙂

Try it, do it cheap, then watch your bling geared bikes gather dust 😉

Yeah, it's a giggle and freshens up your biking world.

Here are some one speed kits.... http://www.charliethebikemonger.com/one-speed-kits-216-c.asp

And drop me an email if you need anything.

Rear mech was playing up this morning (suspect damp in the cable was frozen) so was effectively SS today.

I now seem to be watching lots of cheap bikes on ebay "just in case"

Thanks for the replies so far guys, I would be converting my current geared MTB if I did go ahead as current bank manager (wife) wouldn't possibly allow another bike 🙂

One more question - I'm not particularly fit at the moment so would I struggle massively on a ss?

Imagine always leaving your current bike in around 15th gear, it'll be similar to that! 🙂

its tough to start with - but cleaning and maintenance is SOOOOOOOOOOO much easier - especially in this crappy weather!

Ss is more of a sheer bloody minded attitude than fitness necessarily.

Just go for it, you'll soon adapt to it and you'll get fitter as you it more. SS is having a boom period it seems because the crappy conditions but really they are fun all year round wet or dry.

I have decided that going SS is now fine due to the abundance of 29ers!

Thats my justification in any case!

SS is like bumsex. Everyone should try it once. Some people fall in love with it, others see it as an occasional alternative, and some people have a really shitty time and never try it again.

To conclude I tried it and now... er... love bumsex...?

Just a fad I'm going through as well. In my case, just 7 years and counting.

I've been wanting to give it a try for ages! Have decided to take the plunge and a friend is going to help me so that I can see what's like 😉

In that case you need to get slotted or get swinging...

...dropouts.

Try it first, it can be a good combo. The big wins are some weight saving, and no fork squish when you stand up to put some power in.

It's also a good differentiator from your other bikes. If you're going to have more than 1 bike, make them different.
