My wife’s Liv Tempt came with a 2 x 10 set up with an FSA Comet chainset.
I’ve converted my sons’ bikes to a 1 x 10 set up with a bash guard with a wide range cassette, which simplifies things and prevents oily and scratched legs.
I was looking to do the same with my wife’s bike. The previous conversions I’ve done have been on Deore/XT Chainsets: a simple case of swapping chainrings for a narrow wide ring and bash guard of the correct BCD.
I’ve realised the comet chainset is modular, with the rings not bolted on to a spider but fitting on a central spline.
Has anyone managed to convert a comet chainset to single ring/bash guard? I can’t find any obvious components and am wondering if with the cost and hassle I’d be better just buying a second hand Deore chainset…
Fsa's modular system means there's no difference in the 1x and 2x cranks unlike back in the day when you had to compromise on chain line going to 1x.and you can choose boost/non boost position when installing the 1x ring.
FSA use the Cannondale mount standard so this will give you more ring options. Oneup for example have their switch system with a Cannondale mount and you can add any size ring, oval or round to this. FSA's own megatooth n/w rings also available.
The special tool to remove the existing ring pair is needed though.
There won't be a bashbguard option.
Yep, you can just get hold of an FSA chainring to suit.
The "special tool" can quite easily be resolved with careful use of a punch and mallet, dont worry about that on
I struggled for a bit when I had a boardman with the FSA chainset until I sussed the system out, I'm sure in the end I found my replacement (smaller) chainring on amazon!
