My friend has my old talas r forks (2006 I think) and wants to change them to coil. Can anyone tell me what parts are needed? what cost and how difficult a job?
Thanks in advance.
Contact Mojo. You have to get the parts from them so you might as well get the facts from them too. It may work out cheaper to sell the Talas and get a set of Vans; the Fox bits are expensive.
Easy job, though. You pull out all the Talas gubbins, and drop in coil gubbins. Simple.
Funnily, you can't do it the other way. The Van steerer assembly is not anodised inside, and doesn't hold air. That's what Mojo told me.
IIRC the damper assembly on the right leg will be similar.
The left leg will need to have the spring pushrod assembly, spring and topcap. BUT I dont think Talas forks were made in Vanilla form, so you will prob find it'll be set at the max travel, rather than being adjustable.
If it is expensive he wont bother to be honest. I can donate a spring to him, but the fork isn't worth much, so may not be viable.
Converted my 06 TALAS to Vans a couple of months ago.
I think the parts cost around NZ$250-300 so I'd guess that'd be around 150 in real money (no pound sign on stupid keyboard)
Pretty easy job to do, took me an hour at the most. Nothing tricky in it at all provided you a reasonable amount of mechanical ability. No special tools needed.
MOJO or someone like that will be able to make up a kit with all the parts you need. I could try to list them all but I'd likely forget something.
If the rebound side works fine and the stanchions and lowers are all in good condition then I'd say go for it.

Delilah!!
iz it cos coils are radder?
I just had my Vanilla R upgraded to RLC with the Fox fit by Mojo. £250 for it to be done which also includes the service and postage back.
