Converting 2022 Fox 36 Kabolt-X pinch bolt to QR?

Dear STW hive mind, a quick google suggests this is possible. I have Fox 36 with the Kabolt-X system requiring an allen key to screw in the bolt and then cycle the fork and then do up the pinch bolts with a different allen key to a different torque.

As I am removing the front wheel every time I put bike into van this is a headache. Does appear to me to be a weight improvement too far.

What exactly do I need to buy and do to convert this to QR? (110x15). Many thanks in advance for anyone who can spend a few moments helping me out here.

That pinch bolt is designed to set your lowers to your hub...takes out the tiny difference between different mamufacturers 110x15 dimensions.
Once set, you only need to use the axle to remove the front wheel.
It is not an axle locking bolt.
You could just buy a regular fox qr, again, the only reason to loosen and tighten that pinch bolt now would be if you use a different hub

I’m not sure this is true.

My understanding is that the Kabolt floats when it is screwed in, then after cycling the suspension a few times, the pinch bolt is used to attach it so that the lowers remain parallel.

Is incorrect.
The axle can only be removed once the pinch bolt is slacked off.
The pinch bolt clamps onto the axle.
Mrsstu is constantly forgetting that she needs to undo the bolt and can never get her front wheel out.🤣

I think there may be a conversion kit that uses a spacer inside the pinch part of the lower leg. This is only set once then you just use the QR axle.

Then yes, your wish to replace to qr15 is right
Looks like the kaboltx does away with the floating sleeve.
Moving to qr15, you get the functionality I describe where you set the floating sleeve once and would only need to undo that pinch bolt if changing Rona different hub.
So, you need an qr axle (803-01-548) and a QR sleeve (803-01-548)

Think you made a typo there @BearBack as you have the same number twice.
From what I can see, I think it should be 820-09-063, but please check before taking my word.

I have a Kabolt on my Fox 36 too and it is a pain in the backside as you say. Forgot to tighten the leg bolts today and doesn't seem to have made any difference, although I won't do it again.

Also have Fox 34's on two other bikes and both have had issues with the lever unscrewing and leaving the wheel stuck, which suggests the Fox QR is a little bit rubbish too.

Wonder if it is possible to use a 3rd party QR with the adaptor kit.

I plan on trying a QR adaptor sleeve and an older style screw in axle to make life easier for Mrsstu.

I don’t think that’ll work, will it? I have all four axle types here as it happens, I could look tomorrow. My guess is the old Kabolt110 + a new QR sleeve won’t fit together.

Pre 2021 dims from Burgtec site:

Pre 2021

Post 2021 dims:

2021+

Not sure if that helps. Longer thread step down on the new ones.

I can't see why it won't?
Really don't think 2mm shorter on the thread will make any difference.
I also have a spare older QR, a genuine kabolt, a Oneup bolt in and another Brand X bolt in.
Only thing that might not fit is the head on the Oneup/brandx isa bit smaller and might not be big enough to cover the adaptor sleeve and the end of the fork leg. Though even that shouldn't matter as once the adaptor sleeve is tightened in it should be enough for the axle head to just butt up against that.

I'll order a sleeve and find out.

Thanks folks for your help. It's going to be a near £100 hit, so I want to get this right.
Can I order:

Bushing
Axel

But the axel does not look right, I need the post 2021 Dims with the fat 21mm end cap.

Wrong axle. Despite what’s said up the thread, there’s no guarantee it would work. Get the 2021 axle if buying.

Try a request for swaps? There must be people with the new QR and parts who are looking to move to KaboltX?

Actually, “2020” axle might well be right… as the “new” axle came in on Marzocchi forks in 2020… despite not featuring on Fox forks ‘till 2021 model year.

Compatibility:
34 E-Bike+ Boost Model 2021, 36 Boost Model 2021, 36 E-Bike+ Boost Model 2021, 38 Boost Model 2021, 38 E-Bike+ Boost Model 2021, Marzocchi Boost Model 2020
Manufacturer Number:

Wally, that is what you need.

If there’s a shim in the drive side fork leg, and there will be when you order the first kit, then the axle you need is one diameter to fit inside the shim and the non-drive side fork leg. The tabbed washer sits in the groove of the shim to allow one time adjustment, which Kabolt does without as it’s effectively adjusted every time you reassemble.

I’d agree with kelvin too, ask for a swap. People seem to prefer Kabolt, just make sure you both swap the tabbed washer as well as the shim.
