I built up a Scandal for my partner based around an On-One rolling chassis package. It turned out to be a nice build but the supplied fork isn't great. It's a Recon Silver TK coil and as well as being rather heavy the fitted standard coil is way too firm for her weight.

I can get a soft spring but I was wondering whether it's possible to fit an air spring (if kits are available). The coil has a rod attached to the base which screws through the bottom of the fork lowers, so I would have thought that an air cartridge should fit.

Have you had a look at the weight tables? The soft spring is for lightweights IIRC.

I reckon that my partner's well under 8st., she's quite tiny so I'm pretty sure that a soft spring is what she'd need. I can't help feeling that an air spring might be nicer though, although the cost of Rockshox spares is likely to be prohibitive.

I think its normally only recommended to go from air to coil and not the way you want, coil to air. The spring can scratch the inside of the stanchion which may cause air loss and chew up seals. I'm sure you can get hold of the parts and try but it might be worth phoning up someone and asking whether they think its doable, eg tftuned, loco, etc.
