I'm a massive convert to bumbags. Only ever use a full pack on a big day out nowadays. I really like the freedom, non-sweaty back and the feeling of paring back gear generally.
I've a minimalist bontrager rapid pack and it has all the space I need, most of the time.
However sometimes, and particularly in colder weather when I might be stopping or need more layers, its a slightly lacking in space.
I don't like swapping gear around between bags and/or too much bike luggage. Too much faff, stuff to keep track of, swap around, lose or forget. I like to just pick up my bumbag and go.

Tonight I hit upon a solution for times when I need just a bit more space - an additional stretchy running belt. I've got a couple for carrying phones on long runs. They're just like an elasticated belt, with an elasticated pocket. This sort of thing, cheap as chips. The one I have, perfectly fits a packable waterproof in one pocket. I could get some extra snacks or a GoPro or something in the other pocket. It fits under my existing bumbag very well, not really noticeable and doesn't bounce around.
I'll probably give it a field test tomorrow but all signs positive it will work well.

If getting one, I'd look for one with the longeat and stretchiest pocket. Of the two belts I have, the shorter-pocketed one is harder to get a coat into.

Ps. My bumbag methodology is to keep as much heavy water on the bike as possible, and correct tube for the bike (+ co2 carts + levers) in a tiny saddle pack. Other stuff that I need whatever bike I'm on (multitool, phone, tubeless repair kit, etc) is all in the bumbag.

I used to use a bumbag before it was trendy. But most of the time you don't need it.

For most rides, I take:

1. Phone
2. Pump
3. Water in a bidon on the bike
3. Maybe arm warmers or a hat

What else do you need?

Berghaus used to do a bun-bag with a lightweight extension hidden in the top that converted it into a minimalist rucksack, it was called the Blitz and it worked pretty well if, say, you wanted to stow some addition lightweight stuff and now they've re-done it as retro offering:

The freedom? Yes, I often feel imprisoned by wearing a backpack...😂

So now you have the freedom to not be able to carry what you want/need and the freedom to come up with elaborate solutions to that involving extra straps around yourself all to avoid a simple backpack?

Presumably you've simply swapped a sweaty back for a sweaty bum?

Sorry. Yes, carry on though. 😉👍

The only times when it's a problem are a few rides where I want to shed a couple of layers after starting out in mixed conditions. I can get an 'emergency' waterproof and a softshell gilet into mine OK though.

A more pressing issue is the lack of space for all that, plus a ginsters pasty and a can of coke.

you bumbaggers always rely on your backpacker mates to carry your stuff, especially jackets when it gets warm..
