I have a Carrera Subway commuter I'm improving slightly - I believe it has Tektro cable brakes.
I'm looking to convert these to hydraulics, probably Avid Juicy/Elixir as I have the bleeding kit already for my MTB.
Am I going to encounter any problems? Does the caliper bolt on the same lugs, can it use the same disc?
Cheers
Depends whether your fork has post or tab mounts and whether your brakes are post/tab mounts.
You can get adapters cheaply enough to switch.
The discs will probably be 160mm so should fit but you can use bigger if you want more stopping power - you simply use mount adapters to alllow the calipers to be in the right place.
I'd get a complete set of cheap Shimano Brakes and Discs off eBay. Easy to fit, work well, much cheaper and generally easier to bleed/maintain than most other brakes.
I’ve got some shimano discs you can have for £30. Came off my Voodoo that got written off. Brakes are fine.
Post mount, 180 front 160 rear with adapters.
Wasn't aware of the post/tab difference I'll check. Thanks for the info.
Prawny I've messaged you. I was only thinking Avids due to the bleeding tools I have.
