Hi,
I have 3 drop bar bikes. In reality I only need one. What would you suggest to morph the 3 into one?
3 Jobs for the 3 bikes currently.
- 4 mile each way with panniers on to work.
-odd gravel ride, one 100mile gravel ride with mates. The gravel bikes wheels could be bodged onto my 27.5 MTB.
-road rides. Mostly 40-60 miles but 3 140mile ride to in-laws each year. Mostly on my own, occasionally with mates who are much faster than me fo the longer rides.
-pub bike/ locked up in town bike. I don't like waiting for the bus so cycle. 10 trips a year occasionally a post midnight return.
Gravel bike on 35c tyres, a transition rapture. Mostly used to commute to work. Has hope hubs with carbon rims so these wheels can be adapted to fit any bike. Used for 5 gravel rides last year, mostly 20 miles added to commute home when the weather is nice.
Carbon road bike on 28c, a Cannondale synapse high mod.bought to see how much faster a super duper carbon wheeled road bike was that my alloy bike. A wee bit is the answer. It's nicer than the alloy road bike, much of this is down to the 28c tyres. The wheels feel amazing, for 10 min and are then just nice.
Alloy road bike on 25c. I used to ride this to work and all the road riding. I'd rather not go back to bouncing about on pot holes every day on the commute.
So what's nice enough for 140miles but not to nicka le to lock up in town?
I'm 6"4 so it's got to be a massive frame.
Thanks!

Sounds like you need two bikes, a nice one and a crap one.
Nice = gravel and road
Crap = Pub and commute.
Sell the road bikes and buy a new gravel/endurance type bike. Something like this perhaps?
Is that fara an open up re- mould like the on one free ranger?
It's got the same dropped chain stay.

Fairlight Strael, sell gravel/road bike, keep pub bike. You'll have a lovely comfy road bike that will handle the occasional gravel ride, and a pub bike, because no point upgrading a bike that might get nicked.
TM this was the review I read recently which prompted me to mention

This is for the more road based bike though. As for whether it's open mold I can't say, it read like they were a bit more premium than the normal open mold suppliers but who knows.
The transition looks good and suits the large size.
The Cannondale doesn't look right in the XL size.
I'd keep the Transition as your do everything bike and replace the Cannondale with another road bike.
I've had a bike fit since those photos. The saddles on the transition and alloy Cannondale have come down significantly.
