[Closed] Contour HD1080p. How do you mount yours, and which software to use?

I've just started using the Contour headcam but I'm not convinced with the mounts I'm using with it. I've tried the helmet mount that came with it and although it's mounted pretty tightly, it still seems to be very shaky almost to the point of getting motion sickness when watching it. I also bought the handlebar mount which is basically a waste of time on anything bigger than gravel. How do you stop it vibrating? Also, what free software can I download to easily edit my video clips so I can cut bits out and add music etc? Many thanks.

I'm finding the same unfortunately, going to try a mates gopro on a chest mount as he says there is no shake with a good field of view. Think my roam will be up for sale soon 🙁

No problem with my contour on the head, even on alpine descents. On the bars, however, very shaky. The only method I found was to use gaffer tape to hold it solid in its mount.

We also found the bar mount gave far better perception of vertical terrain.

My contour helmet mount was fine last week in the Alps, hardly any shake. Also used the goggle mount on a few mates, interestingly some of them resulted in shake but in the video the peak was stationary, so the shake was actually the helmet moving on the riders head.

Zip tied the goggle mount to my down tube to try and get a through the forks view. Couldn't see ahead much but the camera and resulting video had no shake. Will get round to trying it somewhere round the head-tube which should give a good perception of the trail without all the blurring caused by handlebar movements

Have seen people get the correct viewing angle then pop rivet the mount to there helmet.

iMovie seems a good choice

The adobe products are good (though not free)

Last time I used a GoPro I had a pair of goggles on. Found the goggle mount was nice and sturdy. Could you perhaps mount it on a headband if goggles are a bit much? [url=

It seems that the problem could be the fact that the helmet is moving around then, as most people with full-faces or goggle mounts seem to have no problem at all. Can't really tighten mine up any more without throttling myself. I think I'll have a go at some zip tied bodge mounts for my frame. I've got some Sugru, so maybe I'll try and use that. It also seems that maybe a GoPro with a chest mount is the only way to get minimum shake which is a shame as I can't afford one. Thanks for the software tips. I'll check them out too and see which one I fancy.

I find that using the Flex Strap mount works well, it gives you plenty of mounting options and doesn't seem to suffer with any vibration.

For the software, I've got a MacBook so I just use iMovie.

XL Handlebar mount and the Flex mount work great. I don't get much vibration for either of them.

You still get a little shake with the Chesty mount, unless you have it so tight you can't breathe. 😕

+1 for the flex mount. The handlebar mount needed packing out with some gaffer tape to fit more tightly to the camera but is now pretty much vibration free. Used some extra velcro straps to tighten down the helmet mount but I find the helmet needs to be tightened until it's like a skull clamp to stop it moving around on my head.

I presumed you'd use the flex mount somewhere on your bike, but most of the reviews seem to be people mounting it on their helmet. I already have the helmet mount so is the flex mount better than this for helmet mounting?

I also use the flex mount, you can put it on the forks, downtube, helmet (through the vents in your xc and round the fullface at the side), bars too with vibration of no consequence. really anywhere to mix up the footage for the edits. lost my google mount 🙁

a wee tip, if you find with all the rattling about that sometimes your contour doesnt record or switches off in the middle of a run when the memory or battery has plenty life, the vibration can cause the battery to lose contact with the plates so jam a piece of carboard in the space between the battery and slot, hey presto no more missing that massive whip on the gap or an OTB moment on the green

Good tip, though it's much more likely to be an OTB moment than a massive tail whip.
