Hi All

I am looking for a pair of these tyres in 2.2 size that are standard non UST. Looked in all my usual online places without luck. Anybody know where has stock?

Ollie

I'd wish they'd make the bloody things in 2.2 + UST + Black Chilli. You can have UST & Black Chilli in the hoooge 2.4's but in the 2.2's you have to choose one or the other.

Sssshhhh keep it down, my 2.2's UST arrived last week and have to say they are by far the best tyre i've used. Don't want everyone finding out though as they'll end up being the new ST 'in' tyre

??

I didn't realise the 2.4 USTs were black chilli? Someone from Conti UK said they would never do black chilli + UST because it would cost too much..

The 2.2" UST is pretty good without the black chilli anyway, on the back of my Rocky Ridge its given me a new perspective on rocky loose steep climbs (cue GW to give me a lecture on how to climb properly 😉 )

The black chilli 2.2" is immense but I may have it for sale in the near future as its a PITA to ghetto tubeless, and I think I'm reaching the end of my ghetto tether anyway..

Thinking of putting some 2.2 USTs on my trail bike, how do the 2.2s roll? I've got some black chilli 2.4s on my Uzzi, which grip superbly but are a bit soft & draggy for an all-day bike. Does the harder compound of the non-chilli ones alleviate this? Cheers.

I've gone from 2.35" High Rollers LUST to 2.2" UST RQ's, the RQ's Roll far better imo

Maybe I've just been imagining it, but Black chilli feels like it rolls faster than other compounds..

hmm Conti do claim the black chilli rolls faster *and* grips better...but then they would I suppose. I guess mine might feel draggy compared to others because the 2.4s are so mahoosive 😯

I definitely found that to be the case with their road tyres. Didn't last very long though before they were all cut up.

Well they certainly aren't cheap but they do exist (from Conti, bottom row);

Hmm, so what top secret, dastardly reason do conti have for not doing a 2.2 UST Black Chilli?

Not that it matters, must. stop. buying. tyres.

I think the RQ's are likely to be the next 'in' tyre... only thing holdin them back is the mahoosive price, presumably due to exchange rates etc.

been wondering about these .I'm getting a Spicy and it comes with them on apparently .Reading the first longtermer report on the bike in MBR that was the first thing they did to ditch the RQs .They reckoned they were slow ?So are they then ?

I used the 2.2 non UST folding (F+R) last weekend for the first time.

First impressions - this could be the best all-rounder yet. It excelled on all terrains and was no slouch on tarmac either.

Perfect trail centre tyre I reckon.

That name though.....

Been running RQ UST in 2.2 for almost a year. It's a great tyre. Much better rolling resistance that I thought for the size. The 2.2 is the same as my Bontrager Big Earl 2.5s

IME most tyres are heavier than the manufacture 'claims', if so I think I've had lighter motorcycle tyres than the UST ones!

Could anybody weigh a standard 2.2 folder please, sounds like a good front tyre.

My understanding is that they only offer the tyres they make themselves in Germany with the Black Chilli. For some reason the 2.2's are made elsewhere; I've been running them for close to a year now and they are ace. Big though; couldn't fit the 2.2 on the back of my old Motolite - but I can on my new Trance! 😉

just bought some supersonic Speedkings with black chilli from discount tyres - ordered Wednesday, arrived thursday - seem to be in Gwent? There was a link on here i think. Cheaper than even the prices on the boxes they arrived in, which was nice....

Been running 2.4 UST black chilli compund for about 3-4 months on a 2009 Spicy 316. Got to say I rate them highly, better than High Roller 2.35 60a anyway. My Monday night ride is about 25 mile including a bit of road work and they roll better on road and grip like s**t to a blanket on the downhills. Not brilliant in mud but they have a shallow tread and due to the volume tend to float over the surface rather than bite into it. All my riding is in the lakes. They are lasting well but when they need changing I might try the 2.2 folders and trying to run them tubeless as it would knock the neck end of 2lb of rotating weight off.

How do the 2.2s size up against a 2.35 high roller?

About the same if not ever so slightly larger!

a 2.2" is measured up as 2.34" in real terms, and it's ever so slightly bigger than my 2.35" high roller, not much in it though.

Half tempted to try these myself... Can anyone do a direct compare with, say, a 2.1 Nevegal stick-e? In terms of speed, grip... Nothing as intangible as "feel" or "confidence" though 😉

"Someone from Conti UK said they would never do black chilli + UST because it would cost too much.."

but the tyres are that good it'd be worth it. i love them. 2.2 RQ's (now also available under the Trail King name after certain markets objected to the RQ name!) are my fave all-round tyre these days.

househusband's right, the reason they don't have that combo at the moment is that conti's UST tyres are made in asia by a big comapny who make a few brands tyres; there's no secrets out there and black chilli is a formula that's not patented/able so they keep production in germany to avoid competitors figuring out how they do it.

i think they are working on UST production in germany for the future, i could be wrong tho

they may be pricey but its mainly the £-Euro problem again, plus the £ against the NT$ is about 25% lower than 18 months ago. so we're screwed at every stage here (
