As above really.

Im looking for 25mm tyres for road riding on my CX bike.

Very few places have the GP4000ii in at the moment at 25mm but you can get 4000's much cheaper.

Are they really a much inferior tyre?

Just a little less puncture protection in the old one. The New one is just selling so well continental can't keep up.

not noticed any difference at all.

Might be worth checking out the grand prix as well. I use the 25mm as a training tyre. Same compound but better puncture protection. Not quite as nice rolling but way better than the gator skins. Weight is pretty close despite what the conti site says.
