... in terms of road, gravel or MTB? I'll probably have to choose between the three. I'd rather do MTB if it means I can rope in junior family members.

mTB: my riding fun level is GT red & black. If juniors can be persuaded they're blue.  I get the impression that Balblair and Golspie are much more steep and technical? I also understand that the puffer winter course is very dull if you're not racing it in -10°c?

Gravel: I've got the OS maps so I can DIY but are there any classic, must-do loops?

Road: ditto gravel, c. 70-80m

All advice gratefully received!

From Strathpeffer, you can do a very good estate road loop around Ben Wyvis. Head west through the woods, short section on the road and then north up Strathvaich. Through Deanich, Alladale and then south, navigating through more estate tracks, up over the hills to emerge on the coast around Evanton area.

It's a big day with some good scenery and a nice remote feel, about 100 miles from memory.

Learnie is good for a few hours mtb and a bit closer than Golspie.

Contin, could easy spend a good few hours on the off piste trails based around the puffer route, may now be on Trailforks

Learnie is a good few hours out with official and off piste trails to suit all abilities

Golspie has a red route that is not too technical and the proper black is not hugely technical really just don’t go flying blindly down it while looking at the views😉

Endless amounts of forest roads that can be mixed up with road to make loops.

Road riding, head up past Loch Achilty and then up Strathconon for a nice out and back on quite roads

Plenty of trails to keep u entertained. Most fairly short so easy to do multiple runs to suit your needs. Only a couple I would suggest avoiding due to gaps. They are pretty much all contained within the waymarked walking loop so easy to find. Also a good old xc trail if u prefer some pedalling.

If nobody around and your unsure. Guys in fc office will keep u right.

Plenty of easier stuff for kids too.

The SSUK course at Evanton was ace - descents/singletrack sections are amazing. I really must go back....
