For coed-y, nant-y, peaks in the winter?
I'v been using Trail King BC's this year and they've been pretty good to be fair. Been OK in all conditions so far, set up well tubeless, I have one repair in the side wall following a rocky section of trail with low pressures on a hardtail.
I've not used the Minion 3C's but I hate the DHR tyre. The Minion front is good (I ran a pair for a while and got on well) but the rear is hateful.
Have you tried the minion dhr2 mindmap. That's a completely different beast from the original dhr. I have been running then front and rear for about 6 months. They have never let me down.

I've not - to be honest I feel so strongly about the original, I wasn't brave enough to part with the cash in case I hated them!
Mactheknife - Where do you ride and how have they coped with wet rocks?
I think for those conditions I'd lean towards the 2.4 Trail Kings. Been using the 2.2 TKs for a long time, more recently switched to 2.3 DHR2 (front in the spring, rear recently). Prefer the DHR2 for my riding (mostly on dirt) but I think the bigger 2.4 TK would be great for rock munching.
Specialized Butcher. It has more than a passing resemblance to the Minion because it was designed by the same guy after he left Maxxis for Spesh. Considerably cheaper too.
I've destroyed two 2.4 Conti TK BC's this year on the rear, both with sidewall splits at the bead (will still work with a tube, but I run tubeless).
Changed to a High Roller II 2.4 60a, feels stronger and grips just fine (on the rear). I've a 3C High Roller on the front and love it.
Scottish Borders, so plenty of rock, mud and roots.
Trail King is pretty cloggy ime. Depends on your mud, though. Great at hammering over rocks and a bit grippier on wet hard stuff than the minion I think, though it's a long time since i used one. Magic rubber innit.
I use the minion because I don't want the clogginess.
trail king on the front for summer, for me. i'd recommend a quick look out of the window, though. As NW says the hold mud in the wet and get sketchy
I roll on DHR2s front and rear as a rule. Just chopped down a DHR2 for the front given its a bit cruddy out there and no sign of a let up. Favourite tyre R for sure, although I would run a DHF on the front if the weather were a bit nicer. Shame the new 2.5 WT and DD are in DHF only... I have raised my annoyance about this with Maxxis 😉
I roll on DHR2s front and rear as a rule.
Yup. I've been running this combo for a while now on mostly natural, rooty, wet trails of late and it has been great - totally confidence inspiring.
Also rode Coed-Y the other week with them - whilst probably a little draggy on the fire roads they were great on the rocky stuff during the descents.

I think I'm going to give a pair a shot having read some reviews - everyone raves about them.
I had been thinking about putting my front Trail King on the rear as the current rear one is looking a bit nailed and getting a der Baron for the front but they are none exisitent for sensible money.
How draggy are they compared to Trail Kings?
Butcher on the Front, Ground Control (for trail centres) & Purgatory (for off piste stuff) for the rear. Front is identical to a minion, but half the price. The rear tyres offer a good compromise of grip/rolling resistance.
There's actually a reasonable amount of difference between the tyres from the Butcher to the minion, mainly in all the things that really work on a minion. The Butcher is however much cheaper, which is nice.
I prefer the HR2 3C on the front to the DHF, seems a bit better in loose or semi-sloppy conditions.
Tried the DHR2 on the front but by the time it gets to be a good idea I'd much rather have a shorty personally. Suppose it depends on your local conditions, the DHR2 was better on slick muddy rock but the shorty better at slop and roots and cement-mixer-mud where you want a bit of stab.
Love the Butcher for what it is, but the compounds let it down for the front... (the DH is much stickier and works superbly) The control's great on the rear though as long as it's tough enough for you.

It's weird, I thought the DHR2 would be slower but if anything they're fractionally faster rolling. I've found I'm running the pressure slightly higher to get the feel I like - 24/28 F/R rather than 22/26, presumably due to the less stiff carcass.
Rolling back down the road into Peaslake at the weekend I noticed I was catching up and overtaking my mates, which made me think - these do roll fast! But thinking back, one was on Vertstar MM + Trailstar HD, one on HR2 2.4 60a, one on Butcher Grids and one on Supergravity somethings...
