I've killed my 4th rubber queen today (2.4" tubeless BC compound), and like the previous three tyres it's failed on the bead after a couple of months use, with loads of wear left in the tread. The rubber coating at the join of the bead and the sidewall has worn off, then the threads have worn through until they have stretched / failed and the tyre carcass deforms badly enough to touch the swingarm. All 4 tyres have failed over about an 8" length of the bead.

The first pair were replaced under warranty, and the 2nd pair have failed in exactly the same place in roughly the same time. Think I'm going to have to send them back for a refund 🙁

Anyone else had issues with these tyres failing? I really like the tyres, but I'm not going to keep using them when I'm having to cut rides short due to tyres failing.

a couple of lads I ride with had similar failures, wonder if it's just a bad batch or a design issue with the tyre?

i have seen this problem several times with Race King tyres last year. had to go and pick up a few stranded people (were rental bikes).

So - sorry for being daft - is the bead splitting / stretching / detaching from the sidewall?

I'm off to check mine btw!

Try normal tyres instead of ust? Are you using the recommended sealant? My rq's have been fine but not had a lot of use...also non-ust.

the bead is partially detaching where the tyre carcass wears thin and stretches. the area of 'fluffy' threads visible where tyre is bulging is where the carcass has worn.

I've just had my 4th puncture right next to the bead tonight :0/ on a non ust x-king. No great loss as non chilli contis are endorsed by Torvil & Dean. Big volume-fast-ish-tough 29er tyre? That's not an ardent or ralph...

I rather like the way the rubber queens ride when set up tubeless. They are on a par with maxxis DP downhill tyres for pinch flat resistance. Very impressive climbing grip too. If it wasn't for this issue then they would be the perfect tyre!

Thats how all my Minnions died similar failure and switched to 2.2 RQ's in BC tubeless flavour as a result. I used to use Stans latex but have since switching to the RQ's have started using Slime Pro sealant. I am interested at how heavy you are and what Psi you have been running?
If I run less than 35 psi in the rear and 30 psi front the RQ's do start to squirm on the rim- but then I am the wrong side of 17 stones (on a hardtail)
I vaguely recall reading something that said about not using alkaline based sealants with Conti's, may have even been on their own website.
Have they delaminated on the inside of the tyre too?
If not manufacturing fault it just looks like too much grunt on an under inflated tyre that has tried to spin itself on the rim.
Is all the conti failures linked to one brand of rim or stress being placed on that section of bead when being initially mounted from new?

Get some Hans Dampf instead. I gave up on RQ's because of the above, shame because they are great otherwise.

I've had this with 2 of the 3 Conti tyres I've owned, I was going to try the UST versions to see if they were stronger. The casings are pretty weak given the price of the tyres.

I'm the best part of 16 1/2 stone in riding gear, and typically run at 30 - 35 psi depending on where I'm riding. The tyres have all been on my SX Trail so theyve had 7" of travel to cushion them! No sign of any wear/delamination on the inside of the tyre, it's just that section of the bead that is wearing from the outside.

I'm running stans flows, as is one of the other lads I ride with who's had this problem. The other lad I ride with who had a tyre fail like this was runnig cross max sx.

Most of my tyres fail like this, including Bonty & Maxxis on 819s / Flows.

I think its just grit n'wotnot rubbing away twixt bead/rim.

Same problem, with 2.4 RQs on Flows.

The weird thing I'm having is my UST RQ 2.2 failing to hold pressure for more than a few days - I thought the whole point of UST was that they're more airtight than tubeless ready tyres? The X-King Protection 2.4 on the back is much better at staying up. Fantastic tyres when they're at pressure though.

I've never had a tyre fail like this before in 15 years of riding round Hope/Ladybower area. Most Maxxis/Panaracer tyres wore out on the side walls when run at low pressure but the bead area was fine. I don't think it's sealant related as both f & r tyres had the same sealant but the problem is only happening on the rear tyre.
