Help!

Broken about 5 tyre levers so far. Soaped the rim and tyre. Warmed up with heat gun. Started away from the valve. Started on the valve and can’t get the bloody second bead on the rim…absolute nightmare. Any magical solutions before I chuck it and buy some Maxxis?

Thanks!

No help, but a mate had real issues with a Conti DH tyre on a Halo rim and also heard they’re a pain with various other rims too.

Cheers. In that case does anyone have a 27.5 Conti suitable as a front that’s not f*ing DH casing?

Look to be pretty shallow rim bed on the deemax rim.
Always finish on the valve not start. Get every bit of tyre into the bed as you work back around to the valve.

Thanks. I’ve tried to get it fully in the central bed but still no success. It’s a right bugger!

I've just had a problem getting a Maxxis Minion DHR on a Specialized rim. Ended up using an additional person, a pokey thing to get it into middle of rim bed, then zip tie to hold it down. The last few centimetres I used the end of my rubber coated handle of a chain whip tool as a tyre lever....

You're not the only one, there was another thread recently but I don't recall if there were any solutions.

Haha, definitely correct orientation. Seems to be hit and miss with issues with DH conti tyre fitting then. Chucking it in the sun now and then chucking in the bin if last effort doesn't work!!

Kryptotal not bad, but a ****ing nightmare on deemax rims. See also WTB, esp Judge in tough casing.

fine on DT Swiss, hunt, JRA etc in my experience

soory for your pain, been there, got the tshirt, donated the deemax wheels to my sons bike 😆

My Kryptotal's just came back from their second Alps trip. Another 2 weeks of ripping around the PDS. Granted I only use the bike for holidays, uplifts and bikeparks but I'm stunned at how long they last.

I used to get one holiday out of a fresh pair of Maxxis.

I did want to switch to a DH casing on the rear but these recent threads have put me off.

I had a struggle with a tyre combo once (can’t recall the details) but then I got one of those CushCore tyre lever things and it just dropped on much easier. I think they are great for really shoving the bead into then rim bed.

Cooked it in the sun, drenched it in soap and water, then had two old steel knives I taped up. Had to use Velcro ratchet style loops to stop it popping off the bead…if I get a flat I’m cutting it off.

Mine weren't a massive pain. but soak the tyre in a bucket of hot soap water before fitting.

Once fitted they loosen up slightly

The CushCore bead retainer thingy is really good for fitting stubborn tyres, as is their chunky lever, though it does generate some interesting comments from the uninitiated when viewed for the first time.

Putting an argotal dh onto my wtb i25 was the worst tyre fitting I've ever done. They're quite stiff and quite tight but also they're kind of slidy and somehow it always wanted to slide in completely the wrong direction so it was constantly trying to walk itself back off. Just super frustrating
