I know we do insurance questions all the time, but I am having problems finding a company that will insure a couple of expensive bikes secured inside a car.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Cheers for any help

Admiral Platinum covers you for theft from inside a vehicle providing it's locked to the car itself. I do this with a cable lock through the rear seat anchors.

£240 for 4 bikes (from £1.2k-£4.5k) plus house contents in SE London with insured excess so effectively no excess plus replacements from any bike shop of your choosing. This with pedalcover
Makes insuring bikes individually look very expensive.

John Lewis Soecialist. This costs little more than normal John Lewis, but includes great cover for bikes, gear and canoes - including in or on vehicles.

Cheers all. PedalCover look to offer what we want. With a number of expensive bikes there is no point in individual cover. I didn't have time to check the NFU site but will next time. Admiral only covered up to £2400 per bike and had issues understanding custom builds.

My old Barlclays policy did and I'm pretty sure my current Aviva one does so long as you're not being daft.

Define daft?
Twice a year we need to drive to the alps with bikes in the car. Is a formula 1 car park considered daft?
We will pay the extra so we don't have to debate things should we need to claim.

Pedalcover here
Have just claimed (it's underwritten by AXA) not for a bike but a water damaged iphone
They paid out in full (minus excess) and money in my bank account within hours of me providing only the IMEI number of the phone, no hassle at all so assuming the process is as easy for a bike loss I could only recommend them
My policy is up for renewal in January, hopefully the premium won't increase much, if it doesn't I will happily renew

I looked at NFU as well but they where slightly more expensive than Pedalcover and coverage was a little less all encompassing

Tomd, AVIVA doesn't, I'm sure they used to but I asked that specific question on renewal this year. They told me if it's not in the house/garage then it has to be locked to an immovable object, of which they said a car/van isn't one, strange logic.... I'd give em a bell and check if I were you.

Just got a quote from pedalcover

£250 a year cheaper than my m&s, which only covered bikes to £2k

Pedalcover covers all bikes I own, without specifying any make or model, covered away from home worldwide, including accidental damage, I can pick my own bike shop for replacement, custom builds no problem

Sounds too good to be true

Yeah, it's odd. Locked with a sold secure 'gold' chain to the inside of my double locked, alarmed, immobilised car? Not covered. Locked to a lamppost in the roughest part of a town of your choice with a wimpy no name cable lock? Covered.
