Hi all,
Looking to get contents insurance for my rental flat. Have a reasonable quote from Churchill, with my bikes included etc. Not a deal breaker but it doesn’t cover sports use while in use.
Does anyone know of any reasonably priced contents insurance which will cover damage to sports equipment when it is in use?
Thanks,
Duane.
Barclays or Lloyds will cover accidental damage in use, but not if you're using it competitively. I think you'd need specialist insurance for that. I have Barclays stand alone bike insurance and it's very reasonably priced.
A lot are vague about damage in use. They may have accidental damage cover but they could mean you've damaged it lifting it out of the car, or could quibble if they found out you stacked it on a 30ft gap jump (or more realistically, anything other than tarmac).
Most house insurances think you're just riding a bike to the shops. However theft cover can be good. More so if kept in the house as often it comes under the main content policy rather than the bike part which is really to cover outside the house and away from home.
Pedalcover are good. the price is higher than most 'comparethemarket' firms but what they're offering is pretty good.
They're also helpful, and will do what they can to talk you through the cover you need.
Barclays. I used it with a good outcome when my Spitfire snapped. Only downside is the £3500 max cover per bike.
I asked Barclays and Lloyds about this when purchasing and they both confirmed damage in use would be covered for mountain bikes. I think my specific question was if I'd be covered if I crashed into a tree 🙂
Barclays also confirmed a bike stolen from a locked car would be covered as long as I'd made my best efforts to secure or conceal it, Lloyds were more vague on that one.
1/3 of the cost pedalcover quoted me.
Aviva covered me when I bent a few bits in the Alps, just had to get a quote for a replacement from a local shop and they paid out quite quickly. I think they have the same stipulation about competitive usage though.
They probably won't be the cheapest though, the only reason I was with them is the 40% staff discount I had at the time!
Thanks all. Will have a better look later, but Barclays looks about double the price of Churchill :/
Nationwide.
Covered for all damage when I stacked it at BPW.
AA cover this.
Call Pedalcover for a quote.
Still waiting for my (very recent) claim to be processed but they have been making positive noises about paying out after my expensive carbon road bike frame and wheel following a hit-and-run crash.
And they have been good to deal with, so far.
