Since mini-me no.2 has arrived on the scene I have been riding more and more road and local XC MTB. Also this is what my mates tend to ride too, with the emphasis on road
I bought an XC 29'er ht earlier in the year and this covers everything locally and to be honest I had a right blast at CYB on it during the summer.
The question is, would it be worth selling the FS, it's a 2013 Anthem X1 29er with updated SLX brakes and a Giant Dropper, it's pretty much standard other than that, size medium BTW.
For the use it'll get this year it may just end up sat there for the best part of summer and I tend to ride my rigid steel ht in the winter anyway.
if its not likely to be ridden then selling it would be the best option for you.
i'm guessing you'd probably be looking at around £700-800 if you did sell it (i'm happy to be corrected on this), but this would depend on the condition of the bike. there seems to be a big enough market for 29ers so selling it shouldn't be an issue. you could get more by splitting it...but this will take longer
Do you llive near cyb- - i may be interested in the anthem depending on price etc?
Surrey based and interested!
The Anthem is pretty much XC, would it not make more sense to sell the HT ? Agreed that given you situation one bike is all you need at the moment.
Do you hate your knees?
I've swapped from a full sus to a 29 hard tail recently and it's excellent.
Sell the full sus and buy the mini me something nice or a trailer for your HT.
My unbiased view.....
Just over 18months ago I had a Five 26er as my sole MTB.
Lots of friends bought 29ers and I noticed that they were quicker over our usual trails. Out of curiosity I bought a Clockwork 29er 120mm hardtail and then never rode my Five.
However after a few months I missed the comfort of the FS bike so sold the Five and bought a Whyte M109s which was very quick over longer distances. However I felt it lacked the fun that I had on a 120mm hard tail and this year sold it and bought my Ibis Ripley.
I'm now sat here with my leg in plaster (not bike related) but can't wait to get out on the Ripley again.
So my advice is unless you have to sell the bike don't, it will cost you a lot more to get a new FS when you decide that yes you do need one.
If it was a large defo get rid. Sure this isn't an advert?
I recently bought a 29er Rigid (Stooge) and am so pleased not to have suspension
I used to own a 4" and a 2" FS 29er. Needless to say these were mahoosive overkill. I mean let's face it, most of UK riding doesn't need the marketing BS of inches of travel and the latest inverted double gassed triple fork
I bought a suspension bike a year or so back - a Rocky Mountain Altitude - and have used it probably a dozen times. This should be for sale rather than sitting there doing nothing
I sold the older FS bikes some years back and did go back to another, albeit less travel - wish I hadn't
So, my advise - sell it, don't look back and enjoy the fun
Yep, definitely get rid of it.
Sell it. They're rubbish.
I don't get the knees quote. The HT is newer, lighter and more suited to where I ride if I'm honest.
I'm not anywhere near mid wales or Surrey I'm afraid chaps, not an advert, just gauging opinion.
The sensible option is to keep it until I use it again.
The mini-mes don't need anything else fancy, balance bikes (2 of the blighters, n+1 for a child!!) & trailers abound.
