Have always run Maxxis DD for trips abroad, heading to Molini/Finale soon
Been riding Argotal front/Kryptotal rear at home, and liking them, but have the DH2 &Assegai DD Maxxgrip that I used last year in the shed.... rear has some wear, but in fairly good nick, front is perfect. Torn between just lazily leaving the Contis on (even though Argotal maybe not the tyre for Finale rock) or fitting the DDs and getting one more week out of them (well, the rear at least)
WWSTWD?
There are some charts rating the casings of each manufacturer here https://enduro-mtb.com/en/the-best-mtb-tire-in-review/
They feel pretty tough to me, I reckon they're if not in then close to the DD ballpark overall which for me means "tough enough for anything" since I'm pretty light. Molini riding is pretty variable in surface, think I was on a dhr2 both ends last time and it worked out well but there were times I'd have liked a bit more front spike. But like you say not so much down finale way! Argotal can do it surprisingly well but I'd definitely rather be on a maxxgrip dhr2.
That Enduro article seems well intentioned but I'm not sure about the results, like, the graphs not separating out cut and pinch protection, which can be wildly different, or having any sort of info on the axes, or giving details of the actual tyres tested makes them a bit pointless. Like, the weights of schwalbe superfravity tyres vary loads, did they test a heavy model of a light one? And the heaviest tyre in the whole test is barely above the halway mark. It's a hard thing to do well, so I hope that doesn't seem too harsh but I don't think they've managed it.
Yeah, ot really a fan of Enduro mag, their reviews are always an incoherent mess.
That said, they recommend DD Maxxis for Enduro riding, but DH Contis for the same, think that's the info I wanted.
Thanks all.
I have an argotal front in enduro and kryptotal rear in endurance.
No issues at all with the front but the rear got a tear in it on some pretty tame terrain on the second ride.
Maybe just bad luck or maybe the different compound. Who knows. If I was buying again I’d definitely get both in enduro.
