I have had it for a couple of years, using it regularly but not pushing the bike very hard.

No service history before this time. As I said above, it is a 2008 model.

Got a quote from Specialized:

>A full service on the Enduro rear shock is £95.00 and the Forks E150 are £105.00. return postage is £10.00

As far as I know they dont supply parts to anyone else to allow servicing.

My options are:
* Send it to Specialized
* Try and do some sort of basic service myself (with the help of Youtube ?).
* Investigate someone else to carry out a limited service (guessing they wont be able to do a full service without Spec kit).
* Ride it until it breaks and replace/fix then

What would you do?

Cheers

These are the details of the suspension:
REAR SHOCK
Specialized AFR Shock w/ Spike valve, air spring, adjustable rebound and low speed compression, 7.875x2.25"
FORK
Specialized Future Shock e150SL, dual crown w/ integrated stem, 150mm travel, rebound, compresion and travel adjust, 25mm thru axle, alloy steerer

I got rid of my stumpjumper cos i couldn't face spending another £100+ getting the shock sorted. I now don't have a fs. 😐

Might be worth seeing Loco/TFTuned or someone along those lines do a service on them for a bit less?

Would Loco or TFT service it? Or could they source the bits you'll need? It's a cool bike, it'd be a shame to run it into the ground. If the pivots bearings and whatnot are in good shape I'd be tempted to spend the money. If the frame needs new bearings then it'll add another wedge of cash 🙁

I got the bearings done by local bike shop. Bought the bearings on ebay. LBS had to buy the bearing sleeves from Specialized and they weren't cheap, but its done.

Any one know about doing a basic service at home, i.e. is it possible?

Either spend the money on service or replace the fork and shock. Worth doing.

I'd look I to replacing the fork and shock if you're planning on keeping tin for the long term. They're not the best anyway. I'm sure you could drop the lowers off and do a quick oil change and seal service at home if there's nothing knackered. And the same with the shock. I expect there'll be a walk through online somewhere there seems to be for every other shock out there.

I've just got my shock and brain back from Specialized after their £130 service. Yes it's a lot of money but the bike feels like the first time I rode it again. Plus Specialized warrant it for another year.

Not quite the same but I have an 08 Stumpjumper. I replaced the brain shock with a Fox RPL. Cheaper and easier to service and has made it a better bike to ride (IMO).

I swapped the specialized AFR shock out for an RP23 for about £85 off eBay. Transformed the bike massively although I added a volume spacer to the air can.

I'd ditch the AFR personally!!

Those Spesh prices are not much different to what tf/loco charge for any other fork shock
