Connecting old Garmin to laptop via USB - not showing up

Got a Garmin Edge Touring, always used by connecting to laptop via USB and I drag + drop GPX files into the New Files folder. Never used Garmin Connect or Express.

This am it won't connect / isn't recognised by File Explorer. Same cables, connections, ports. Laptop did some updates earlier, might be related to that. But I downloaded Garmin Express and the app can't find it - does that suggest the unit has a USB out issue? It is charging so the USB cable I normally use to connect is working.

Tried a reset of the Garmin and restart of laptop, different ports etc, no change.

I can put GPX onto it via the Mini SD card slot so no real problem, just interested if anyone's had similar and fixed it?

Cheers

Ignore, didn’t see you’d tried other ports

Charging doesn’t 100% guarantee the cables ok, try another cable to rule it out.

Have you tried power cycling the garmin?

What type of usb port is it at the garmin end? Is it full of fluff? Try scraping it out.

So it does connect to another laptop, and oddly after connecting to the other laptop it's now showing up on my laptop again as normal and Express has found it.

Weird.  Been faffing around with this for over an hour instead of being out riding already... Just one of those intermittent electronics/IT gremlins. Garmin seem to be good at those.

Sure, some USBs are charge-only not data cables, it wasn't that but worth a reminder.

Anyway, fixed now - no idea what/why but fixed. Thanks.

Had USB connection issues with both my watch and mobile. Dust and fluff got stuck in the ports, and compressed over the years everytime I plugged them in until eventually the build up prevented a reliable connection from the contacts. Scraped it out, no more problems.

Same here. Still haven't solved it but it looks as if its the USB port . Clean them
