I really battle with concentration when I am riding. I usually find my self going through the days events, or thinking about crap.
The problem is, I keep doing this on the technical sections of the ride, even downhill.
This has results in a crash where I broke my thumb when I crashed on a totally arbitrary section of trail resulting in a dislocated thumb and 4 weeks in plaster.
Anyone out there got any tips on how to focus and keep my concentration on the bike?
thats pretty weird if you ask me, one of the things i love about biking is once it gets technical it forces all of that 'life stuff' out of your head.
I do think about plenty of stuff on the flat sections though.
In terms of any ideas, id say going on a skills day would at least give you relevant tips and things to remember to be doing while you decend. ie going along thinking about looking ahead, getting position right, etc
Thinking things through is one of the reasons I ride, but the technical bits usually wipe any of these thoughts away.
I usually force a really annoying song to get stuck in my head and sing it at the top of my voice while descending.
That or repeating a mantra to yourself could help. Something like 'slow is smooth smooth is fast' or 'deathgrip deathgrip deathdeathdeathgrip'
I suppose I just have mild hyperactivity issues.
Same as me, i'm a lot worse on the road bike.
Never enough to crash though.
(I do like to pretend i'm on a star wars speeder bike when go fast through the woods)
it forces all of that 'life stuff' out of your head. This is one of the top reasons I go biking.
To the OP - try watching biking vids before you go out on a ride and before you go to bed the night before a ride. Works for me and is good for inspiration and technique.
I've been to see Jedi, which has helped my riding so much, just the concentration part is that is killing me.
