I think I remember a thread along these lines a wee while back but I can't find it.

Am musing on a wee bikepacking route to take after a family stay in Comrie Croft. I'd like to ride to a friends house just North of Inverness - I can get there by picking up the HT550 in Bridge of Balgie. I'd like to avoid having to ride all the way around to Killin via Lochearnhead.

It looks on the OS map that from the top of Loch Lednock I should be able to hike-a-bike for about 3k to meet the Rob Roy way. Has anyone tried this? Don't mind a wee bit of bog trotting but would rather not start my trip by going snorkelling.

Think I started that thread!

Verdict was that yes it's possible, but also yes, it's 3km of heather bashing.

Strava heatmap show it has been done, and apparently (going by comments on road.cc about the new Perthshire Gravel route) it's a good route overall.

I might try it on the 28th, have an opportunity for a short ride from Braco...

Aha! I'd thought it was you asking about it @13thfloormonk. Would love to hear how you get on.

Check out Markus Stitz's Perthshire stuff, someone definitely said he had done a route from Ardteonaig to Comrie.

Also Mattoutandabout will surely know

Morning. That's the view out my old office at the closed outdoor centre at Ardeonaig.

As above, it's a 3km Scottish hillside heather bash.

There are some vague sheep and shepherd tracks, Derek and Neil are up on the quads all the time, and if it's clear you can pick the quickest one to connect with the pipeline track.

It's not pleasant however I've done worse. A loaded bike will reduce you to some choice words.

Ardteonaig

Marcus' route is Ardtalnaig, not Ardeonaig.
He headed up to old bothy at Dunan at the head of Glen Almond, then shorter heather bash across shoulder of Chonzie/Nan Eun into Invergeldie.

I'm sure he has done Lednock to Ardeonaig though, a good few have.

Thanks Matt.

Just so we're clear - I'm looking at riding up the W side of Loch Lednock then bashing over the bealach between Ruadh Meall and Meall Daimh. From there picking up the Rob Roy way to Killin.

It's a bit more direct and as I'm on MTB, not gravel bike I want to steer clear of tarmac where I can.

Ah yes, my bad, acting on 2nd hand information, Markus's route went through Glen Almond.

Am looking forward to a loop of my own in August, Callander - Killin - Rob Roy Way to Ardeonaig - Ardtalnaig - Sma Glen - Comrie - Glen Artney - Callander

@stevious - that's the route I understood and yes that's a rough go'er.

Rats, thought I was going to pioneer some sort of future classic loop! đŸ˜‰

I'll not be heading up to Loch Lednock next week unfortunately, too far out of my way.

However for anyone who happens to be free early AM Tuesday 28th, I'll be attempting this loop from Braco

Now then if we add the route Stevious has to this one I plotted it would be extra epic

That looks like a great route, @robbie. Not entirely sure it needs *adding* to though!
