Where have all the other commuter cyclists gone?
Could all work from home people do a fake commute to keep us real workers company.
Come on. Get on your bikes and get in the way
Bloody strange out there

Lol! I was thinking if I do need to go in I'd like to ride in (about 20 miles) normally it would be train before Covid or car. Having said that I'm trying hard not to go to the office. My working life would be a bucket load easier 2-3 days a week if I did but I am doing my best to get things done without.

I rarely see another cycling commuter at the moment. Plenty of people who think the best time to walk their dogs is between 8:00 - 9:00 am, though.

Not sure if I am a mug. Or people staying at home are.
We will take over the earth.
Seriously though. It is weird. I am pretty sure if I still had my old trials motorbike I could ride that to work and no one would bat an eye.
Come on snow make it fun

I've been riding at about 5:30 in the morning, which is a bit earlier than my pre covid commute. For some reason I never see anyone else!

I normally commute about 40 miles per day to/from work on the bike (3 days per week, 1 work from home), and whilst I could, technically justify going to the office/lab, I can work from home. It's not ideal, but I'm trying to obey the spirit of the lockdown. Also, with the kids home from school, it seems massively unfair to just leave all teh teaching to my wife as she's busy too.

So, to summarise - I'd love to be back on the bike, but circumstances say I can't/shouldn't. For the moment, you're on you're own - maybe literally by the sounds of things.

I've changed jobs while WFH in lockdown, so what was 12 miles each way would now be 30+. That ain't gonna happen except for high days and holidays! Being able to meet my new team and work face to face would be fantastic a couple of days a week, but strictly not allowed.

Did go through a stage of a fake commute in the mornings when the kids went back to school and enjoyed some amazing sun rises, but soon began to wonder why I was back to dragging myself out of bed at silly o'clock when I could have a lie in instead and get an hour in at lunchtime.

My commute is half and half drive/ride. Doesn't feel right to be leaving my van at its residential road parking spot on the days I have to be in the office so I just drive the whole way. I do miss it.

It's not lockdown that's making me take the car but the awful sleety ice at the moment, I have good intentions on a number of mornings..

Although I have had to install a bell since covid due to the number of dogwalkers exponentially increasing haha

The wife usually commutes bike > train > bike - sometimes just bike.

Even in the rain and snow (spike tyres do, apparently, make a difference!)

However, the train services have been cut and/or rearranged so she has to take the car on some days. Over the year this is going to cost us about and extra £3500.

This morning I found out that UHNM (Stoke) are reintroducing car park fees for staff, 1st Feb (cos "there is no parking available for patients" or maybe the pandemic is over - whatever), so that's another £750 we got to pull out of our arse.

Seeing as her job involves effectively giving people a bear hug (including known covid positive) my piss has passed boiling and become a piss plasma.

Seems no matter how hard you clap, things dont improve if you're at the bottom end of the income scale.

Still using the bike at the moment, not been able to effectively WFH as i need to be in the workshop for at least a few hours each day, or on the shop floor.

I've swapped seeing other commuters (by car or on foot, no other cyclists) for dog walkers and shoppers(?), the queue outside the CoOp on my way past at ten to seven is weird!

Still using the bike, but otherwise road traffic hasn’t decreased at all. It’s quiet around the school I go past but otherwise just as many cars.

WFH so no commuting.

Plus there's 6cm of snow this morning.

I did a faux-commute in lockdown v1.0 and managed it a couple of times this time round. Then I got what I believe to a be spurious test & trace app ping so that was out of the window for a few days. Since then it's rained and I've not been arsed!

'tis a shame as I nearly managed every work day last year, was hoping to better it this year.

Not touched my commuter bike since March and likely won’t until April or May.

Been commuting into central London on the bike fairly regularly, two or three days a week (scooter on the other days)since this all started. It was great in the early days now the traffic is not a lot different to pre-COVID days, maybe a little quieter outside peak commuting hours. Cyclist numbers have definitely dropped off over the last few weeks, in summer it was mad busy, great big peletons at the lights 🙂 and as the weather has been so crappy this week I’ve taken advantage of work having parking and paying congestion charge and ulez to drive in a couple of days. The local councils have introduced a lot more cyclist friendly infrastructure, some good - some less so which I hope helped numbers and hopefully cycling numbers will pick up again. Probably saved a fortune on tube and train fares but god sometimes it would be nice to just flop down on a tube and doze into work.

I was commuting by bike when I was going in during the last lockdown. I was then just going for rides in the morning when WFH. Now I'm not, cos I prefer the time in bed. Well, I don't, but the general misery of the weather and situation means that's what I'm doing. A winter for getting fat and lazy. And depressed.

I moved jobs during lockdown and am now at an office the other side of Huddersfield instead of having to drive to Leeds.
However I will be working at home for the foreseeable - I actually wish I could work with colleagues in an office as it’s been really hard learning a new job on my own.
