So my trusty Deuter Race EXP Air ruck sack is about to die

Its 7-10 years old and has been used pretty much every day and has held up well but the zips are now failing (including the material around them) and its looking rather grubby/oil stained in places

So its time to replace it with a newer one, just been on Deuter's website to check the range out and they have updated the Race EXP Air and it doesn't look as good as the original and has lost the front external pocket (very handy)

So is there anything else out there i should be looking for?

Needs to be max 15 litres

Must have a whole mesh back air panel and mesh straps, just air channels are no good, the whole back has to have good air flow (im a heavy sweater and this seems to be the only system that works for me)

Must have a removable rain cover

Finally it must be black (to match the bike and my kit)

I originally went down the osprey route, first with a 15l escapist which was too sweaty and then with a 15l syncro but the mesh on both ospreys was very abrasive and pretex couldn’t handle them. I then got a deuter race exp air and it’s perfect in every way. I think mine is the same as yours as it does have a front pocket so I would probably try the new version as the back system is so good

Cheers, just been looking at the Osprey Syncro 20 (seems they only do a 12 & 20 Litre)

What do you mean by pretex?

Cant get a good look at the back in the pics online so popping to my local Evans tomorrow as they have one in stock

If its looks no good then ill have to get the newer Deuter EXP Race Air

Sorry, should have said pertex. I know pertex is quite fragile but the deuter back didn’t cause any problems. I could even see my gore wind stopper jacket fabric roughing up. I ended up putting spinnaker repair tape on the mesh to stop the rubbing. What was even more strange was my commute was 12 road miles each way with almost no stop starting so I didn’t think the pack was moving around much
