I keep getting distracted with getting a light with a pulse function. I like the way they appear on other bikes, so flirt with the idea every now and then

In my mind I'd written it off until the Joystick Mk10 comes out, so I can get a Mk9 on sale

But, failing that, what cheap lights have a good pulse? i.e. base level of lighting with a brighter flash a couple of times of second or so

I have 3 main commuting lights - Lezyne Macro Duo on my helmet and a Fluxient U2 mini on my bars. Also have a PDW Spaceship on my bars as backup. They all flash, but none pulse

To be fair I really don't need another light, so might just hold on anyway, but I keep getting distracted by them (pun intended...)

Cateye Volt 300 is the most interesting one I've seen

Ideally self contained, 18650 battery or 2/3 AA/AAAs, or maybe USB rechargable. Ability to remove it from the bike fairly easily would be helpful.

Something cheap and chinese would be ideal to tie me over

I really like my 300 - it's more than bright enough for my commuting all winter and the road night riding I've done. It steps down to very sensible levels has a great beam pattern and sensible pulse/flash modes.

Really easy to remove from bike or to swap between bikes too.

Thanks, but you're not helping! I really like the look of the light

Looks like good value but was hoping to find something even cheaper! Couldn't find a chinese special

I got mine for £37 in a sale at EBC - think it's cheaper than that at Tweaks. I'd happily pay that again.

I'd get a volt 300. In fact I did.

Volt 300/50 front/rear combo here - have seen me through this winter very well and have been impressed with their robustness and ability to cope with proper lousy weather. I can get a week's worth of commuting out of a recharge (but also have the option of a quick top-up charge from USB ports on the office PC, if needed). Got mine on a price-match deal from my local Evans store.

At the Volt pricepoint I think Cateye can't be beaten. Next step up is Exposure. I like the Volt and have a 100 on Teen2's commuter and a nanoshot on another bike. Build quality is excellent.

If you can stretch a bit have a look on the Niterider Lumina series. I've got the 750, the pulse function on it is brilliant - when riding it does feel like the unit is releasing "fire punch" few times per second! 😆

Exposure Sirus. Such a great light, and rather cheap here: http://www.rutlandcycling.com/280659/products/exposure-sirius-mk-1-front-bike-light-with-helmet-mount.aspx

Pulse and 3 normal modes, and battery lasts the indicated times.

Thanks all, I've order a volt 300

Saw the Sirius but it's getting close to joystick money, and the mk2 seems much better. Lumina also at joystick money

Bought a new volt 300 for £30 on eBay, winner!
