You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi guys,
I just bought a Honzo and want to set it up so I can use it for my daily commute, and maybe some Sunday trips on gravel roads around London. What's the best way for me to set up the wheels? Should I get a second set, or just get a commuter tyre and slap on the existing rims? They are quite wide, at 23mm, but I guess I could get a 38mm schwalbe 700c tyre? Any other recommendations?
Also looking for tips for day trip or overnight trip with some beginner downhill singletracks. I'm based in London and don't have a car.
TBH I think just changing the tyres would be as easiest, just get a decent set of tyre leavers (pedros for me). Can't help on the tyre choices though.
That's an entertain choice of frame for a commuter, should be fun though.
If you get a second set of wheels, you'll also need to get tyres, disc rotors & a cassette (unless you want to swap everything over each time you change). Unless you're changing every couple of days, just swap tyres over on the rims you have. I've put some Conti Sport Contacts (700x37) on my hardtail recently and they are fast as flip!
What width would work beat for my use, considering the 23mm wheels?
I think 38 might be too narrow, so 42 or 47? I'm looking at the conti touring plus 700c tyre.
I put 37mm tyres on a pair of Superstar XC 29" rims which are 19mm internal and they seem fine - not sure if you've measured internal or external but hopefully that should give you a rough idea?
My wheels are 23mm internal. They're huge. So what do you guys think? 42 or 47? Also, how are the conti touring tyres?
The sport contact's are super slick - they're really fast on road but a bit sketchy on anything else. If your rims are wide, go for big tyres - you're not going to lose much speed going bigger, but they'll be more comfy on rough tarmac.
