Thinking of building a drop bar commuter/gravel bike and have a couple of questions about drive train.

From my limited research it appears that SRAM road levers are compatible with SRAM MTB rear mechs - is this correct>

If it is, as I have a spare mech, this would be my plan:

SRAM Apex 10spd Road Levers

SRAM X9 rear mech

Sunrace 11-40t 10speed cassette

Mechanical disc callipers (model/spec undecided)

The thinking behind the MTB rear mech is greater clearance/capacity for a decent sized cassette as I'll be running it 1x.

Anyone see any issues with the above?

I've put cx1 mechanical levers with 11spd apex and Shimano 11-42 with 42tNW chainring, using TRP spyre calipers. I like 1x for simplicity and its quieter, was difficult to source everything on line and full hydraulics were too expensive.

I recently went 1x10 on my CdA. I already had the 105 10 speed shifters though.

I bought a Absolute Black 38t oval NW chainring, 11-36 10 speed Deore cassette and a Deore Shadow 9 speed rear mech (GS).

I also use TRP Spyre mechanical discs too. This setup works flawlessly! Shifting is very smooth and instant.

Only part I'm struggling with is cranks.

The frame I'm looking at is BB86 press fit - and mainly being an MTB'er I have no idea what to look for.

Guessing that means I can't use an old set of SLX cranks I have lying around?

Confused now .

The wheels manufacturing website recon's you can use SLX cranks with a bb86 .

Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Buy a Boardman cx team strip it for the group set rival hydro 11spd with a 42 cassette. Prob about £800 with British cycling discount and cash back. Sell frame and any left over bits.

I was looking this one on eBay:

Shark Traverse frame/forks & wheels

No idea if it's any good, but price is right for what I want.

Yes with the right BB you can run Shimano cranks,

Hope have a good chat showing the main BB type (and what to measure)

Also For people who have STI levers already but like to have Hyd brakes, (and not having to go 11spd) be worth look at Hope v Twin brake set up.
