Well due to my motorbike being in for a service and Tuesday missus using the car. I'm planning getting the train plus cx bike into work for my nightshift then riding home Wednesday Morning as I'm off till Saturday.
The route is uphill but not a massive elevation gain and is around 17 miles.
Route is a main road, a back road through a park then onto a cycle path back onto a main road, country road and then onto a canal path (Leeds Liverpool Canal) to Blackburn.

Should take 1 hour 30 minutes. Never done a ride longer than 15 miles though.

Wise after a 10 hour nightshift?

Shouldn't be so bad if you've no time pressure. If you're worried about it work out a couple of bail out options to a train station en route, or just a cafe for a breather.

Depends how tired you are after your shift really...

Nah can take as long as I want as I'd only be going to bed for a few hours when I get in. Don't wanna waste my day off.
Few bail out options as the canal kinda runs next to the railway line but it will be rammed in the morning.

Other option is train to Chorley which cuts half hour off the ride but again will be rammed with Manchester commuters at that time.

Less cars and you can see stuff coming - I really like it.
Don't go like the clappers & have something to eat when you get home.
It's going to be cold tomorrow - make sure you set off with dry socks,
not the ones you've been wearing all day!!
I have made the sweaty sock mistake too many times...grr.

The hardest part is always the getting started. Everything after that is really enjoyable 🙂

you'll be fine, don't over think it, it's just a bike ride, go as fast or as slow as you want and enjoy yourself.

Yeah just gonna take a fresh pair of socks and my bike gear and change before I set off. Not sure where to leave my bike yet as I'm not leaving it outside. I'll bring it up onto the ward.

Have food and drink for the trip home. The bonk hammer can hit hard after a night shift. Set an alarm on the phone to remind you to eat and drink (or Garmin if you have one).

Be wary of icy patches on cycle tracks at this time of year.

Make sure you've eaten properly at work and you should be fine. I'd take a bottle, say 500ml of sugary drink for the ride itself..you might not want it but always best to carry fluid on ride that long.. You may have an issue with the bike and have to walk some way to a train or whatever.

I used to commute 16 miles each way, once a week

Even after a long day once you're on the bike it's fine
