You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hey everyone, currently riding a custom built trance x0, don't get me wrong, i like it but have always wanted a commencal meta 5. I ride trail center type stuff/singletrack. Enjoy hitting jump/drops along the trail etc.
The one thing holding me back from parting with the trance x is the weight of the meta. I'm still wanting to climb at a reasonable speed but i've heard the meta is sluggish and weights a fair bit!
Can anyone tell me a rough weight of a meta 5.5 uk build? Also, can anyone shed some light on the flexy rear end and climbing disadvantages i've been reading about?
Hugh
Have you tested one? Surely that's the first thing to do. There's quite a few about so you might be able to arrange a demo or swapsies for a day with someone.
My mate just got one and is very happy with it. I tested a 08 one and never noticed the flexy rear end - really liked it.
Climbing disadvantages??? What would they be? My experience, and anything I've read, suggests quite the opposite. I've found that the rear suspension is great for traction going up anything.
As for weight, I've had mine as light as 29lbs but it's currently sitting at 32lbs (those are real, measured weights, not fictional manufacturer weights).
Any rear end flex (if you can notice it) is easily taken care of with a bolt-through or a rear maxle.
Oh- what's up with the Trance X? That's on my short-list for a new frame....
Ok cool, not ridden one as i don't have a local dealer so will be going mail order. I've had a sit on a couple at Afan and found the large to me more to my sizing.
Reason for me referring to the swing arm was because an owner of one mentioned it to me and said he noticed it when climbing. A bike radar review of the 5.5 uk mentioned it being sluggish, although Doddy seemed to have loved his and didn't want to give it back!
Any one else? Any views of the 5.5 uk in particluar?
EDIT: Nothing wrong with the trance x at all, i love it! May very well keep it but have been toying with the idea of a meta for quite some time. Are you switching from the meta just for a change/fresh ride or is there something you don't like about it?
Thanks
Hugh
I sort of just fancy a change, although my preference would be to something lighter / less travel as I'm not really making the most of the Meta, being a more wheels-on-ground type.
I'd check out the sizing though - there are some fairly large guys (up to 6ft) riding mediums.
