Hi
I wonder if anyone has one of these, I'd like their thought on spec, geometry and finish, like the look of both but can only have one.....
Thanks
It is hard to compare. One is specced with mid-to-high end parts, carefully thought out to mirror what an actual rider would spec. Is the nice mix between uncommon, but reliable and wins rave reviews. The other is 5lb heavier and rocks Deore to accommodate the marketing budget.
Think you might want to check the facts if you think the Reign is 5 pounds heavier than the Meta.
Commencal list the bike on their site as: 13kg
Giant list their reign 27.5 2 as: "The most accurate way to determine any bike’s weight is to have your local dealer weigh it for you. Many brands strive to list the lowest possible weight, but in reality weight can vary based on size, finish, hardware and accessories. All Giant bikes are designed for best-in-class weight and ride quality."
You may tell me Commencal is wrong. I despair for Giant's answer.
The Reign is ~14kg out of the box.
Hard to compare of course, as it's got a lot of lower end parts, but also a bigger, heavier fork too.
But then the Reign is a lot longer, lower & slacker. The frame is also a load lighter than the Meta, so the potential is there to build the full bike for less.
Reign has a longer top tube and reach, shorter chainstays and head tube and a 1 degree slacker head angle. It also comes with a RS Debonair shock vs the Monarch on the Commencal.
Whether you think X9 1x10 anmd a 42 tooth extender is carefully thought out depends on what you value. Deore is never gonna make anyone go wow but it is very dependable.
I've heard on another thread that the lower priced Commencal V4s wheels are a bit hit or miss.
Both bike are on my shopping list along with Strive, Capra and Rose's Uncle Jimbo which is cheaper and out specs all of them.
The Reign is €2,299 in Europe, which makes it under £1,700
Cheers all
I've come from a 2013 trek rem 8 which I disliked a lot,
Xt etc, but I've been looking at geometry with not bad forks and shock in the new bike.
The best price I can find for the giant is £2199 direct from a giant concept store!!! My budget is £2200 but I'd like a reverb dropper post with it and I've read loads of rubbish reviews of the giant specced connect dropper post...
I'm also keen on pikes, both these have them on.
Anyone had experience with commencal bikes, warranty claims etc.
Also I've stumbled across a new british firm call "bird" , their aeirs looks nice but would like to know others thoughts..

Can a reign frame set be bought on on its own.
Cheers
Spec list on the Meta shows it comes with a Revelation, not a Pike, so you might want to check that.
You can't buy the Giant as a frame only unfortunately.
The Bird will be another good value option like the Commencal, you're buying direct, so cutting out a dealers margin, makes it better spec and a bit cheaper, like the Commencal. It's quite a chunky frame again though.
I can't imagine you will get much of a deal on a Reign, as they have been popular & supply is limited. Unless you're fortunate enough to have a friend who owns a Giant store!
Cheers hob nob
The commencal is listed as having this spec it's the essenctail ltd version
I ride local wood trails and Innerleithen areas, so not sure if the reign may be to long for the tight twisty woods I ride
I would also like to ride a few Scottish enduros on it

Hi Derek
I've had a V4 Origin (base model) for a month now. For the money it's a fabulous bike. It replaced a SC Nomad C fully kitted out with my ideal spec list and the V4 outperforms the Nomad in almost all areas.
My only gripes are the wheels (Front pretty much folded as I was railing a smooth berm, throwing my over the bars. Rear free hub bearings seized solid after <50miles) and the fact it doesn't come specced with a chain guide. I might have been unlucky with the wheels.
I switched some parts out on my bike (and replaced the wheels, obviously) but the Essential spec list looks pretty spot on. As Hob Nob said, the standard bike comes with a RS Revelation but the limited edition comes with a Pike for €100 less, so, if you go for a V4, make sure you get that one!
As for warranty, Commencal were very responsive to my wheel issues and agreed to send a replacement. However, that was 3 weeks ago and I'm still waiting. I haven't really chased it up following the original claim but if I've heard nothing in the next few days I'll drop them another email.
So, there you go. Fun, fast bike capable of pretty much anything but running on wheels which may self destruct.
Ali
Reign is more descent orientated, more like mini-dh (like nomad3)
and Commencal is a single pivot (faux-bar)
i would go for Reign (as it has more progressive geometry) and probably better suspension
Cheers all
Arogers, not good from a wheel front, I'd probably want a bit more thsn a few weeks out of a wheel set!!! Was the Alfa rims on yours.
I was looking of adding the reverb and chain guide at point of purchase, seems great value, the euros cheap against the pound at the mo..
Razor jack, what do you mean by progressive geometry, all I know is a 65 head angle is slack so I wont feel I'm going over the handle bars on steep stuff,
You'd think it would be easy to buy a new bike but I'm more confused than ever, had looked at the yt Al but don't wwant to wait until mid April, would it worth the wait I wonder!!!!! As it has the same geometry as the giant but a bit better spec... Think it weighs a bit though
I would recommend checking out the bb configuration on the Meta before making your choice. I had the V3 and it was a press fit which needed hacking to bits each time it needed replacing due to the shell being an irregular shape! As far as I know, this has not changed. This was the major reason I went with Banshee as my next purchase. Oh, that and the new rear brake housing on inside of chainstays. Heel rub was already an issue before they widened to accommodate rear brake on V4! Apart from that, good bike!
Giant and Commencal have longer top tube/reach than the YT.
All of the bikes mentioned are slack
